I just had a question as to why the K-1 visa processing times vary with case to case. It may seem like a dumb question but I really want to know. I've been looking at everyone's timelines and I'm seeing some cases where they receive the NOA1 then 2 weeks later NOA2 comes in. And I saw another where it took a year. I know it changes with every case but I want to know why. Is there specific countries those are entering from that can change that? Or different states that changes that? Is it something you add in your I-129F petition that can change how they process it? I put that I was expecting in mine (I am the petitioner) and I'm due in May. Could that change anything? Also is it possible to later add that we want email notifications? (We forgot to add that form) I received the NOA1 October 15th in the mail and on the document it was approved on the 5th so it took 10 days to receive. Thanks for anyone's input.

I think it depends on Service Center, currently most (or all) k-1 petitions are routed to California where processing time is about 1 month. So if everything goes well with your petition you have a chance in having your fiance by May, but after NOA2 it all depends on country of your fiance and your specific case. Good luck.

Also it will help you a lot if you update your timeline with your service center, this way you will receive an estimate for your NOA2 :)

Timelines never show the whole story. Each case is different. Some people have been married before, some have not. Some have kids, some do not, some have mountains of evidence submitted, others haven't sent as much. Service centers speed up, and then they slow down.

If you mean that by expecting, you mean expecting a baby, then no. That doesn't make any difference in the least.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

If it mattered everyone would be expecting.

Are you checking your receipt number at USCIS for updates? If your NOA 1 on Oct 13, you should get your NOA 2 soon or an RFE. Check USCIS website for any update. That is where you should monitor your case.

The e-notification didn't help me to monitor NOA2, we only received an email for NOA 1.

Most of your questions were already answered.

Hi, we are about to start the K-1 visa application. We also heard about the wait times. Our concerns are these: 1) Is it going to be easier/faster to get him to the states and with a temporary work visa, on the i-129 or i-130? We were told by Stockholm to expect 5-6 months for fiancee visa, as opposed to 12-15 months for spouse visa. If he wants to work, seems like fiancee visa is shortest way to go then get married. We are fine getting married too but don't want to wait 12-15 months for him to be able to work. Does anyone know what kind of work permit you can apply for once married??

Thanks in advance,

Katrina and Teddy

It sounds like he just wants to come here to work.

That is not the purpose of the K-1 or CR-1. If US Embassy interviews him and it seem like work is number 1 priority then they will likely deny his visa.

K-1 is quicker than CR-1 5-6 months currently is about on track for fiance.

If he comes to USA on K-1 he can work after his AOS (adjustment of status) you apply for this after you marry it can take 3 months or so.

You are posting to a 1 year old thread

You might want to ask your work visa question here:

Good luck to you both
