The whole idea of getting a Green Card is that the person wants to live in the USA, so USCIS take a dim view of people moving back to their home countries! In fact your future husband would lose his green card if he did.

However once he became an American citizen, then yes, he'd be free to leave the USA whenever he wants, live somewhere else and then return with no problem, as he'd be an American.

There are limits to how long a person can be out of the country an still maintain LPR (Green-Card) Status, but if the person Naturalizes and becomes a US Citizen, those limits no longer apply, once a citizen always a citizen, Citizenship cannot be revoked for any reason.

One note LPR and Citizens MUST file IRS returns even if out of country for more than a year, you may be exempt from paying taxes on foreign income, but you are not exempt from filing returns, this is one thing that will cause a person to loose LPR status.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.
