So I applied for my SSN 17th Jan, taking my EAD, pssprt and marriage cert. I wasnt in the system and so they said they'll do the maunal verification. Anyways, I called yesterday and asked the lady to check the SAVE system again to see if i was in it, and I was!!! And so she told me I'll get my SSN in the mail within 7-10 days but I can come for a print out by the end of the week.

I was wanted to let ppl to to try to call or go into the office if you applied for SSN by using ur EAD. So mdyoung, am guessing that immigration might update the system using our EADs but might take longer than ppl on K-1 visa or maybe I was just lucky. But some ppl like jayjay were in the system right away. Who knows how they operate.

I've started applying for jobs now and my interview is next week tuesday, I just hope everything goes as smooth as I 've had so far. Thanks mdyoung with all your posts about applying for SSN and the SAVE system, coz when I called she said the manual verf. wasnt abck yet, but I asked her to check the SAVE system and I was in. So you helped me save an extra two weeks!!!

Good that you followed up and it paid off. Good that they did for you over the phone. That's why I tell people to follow up. Beats doing nothing and sometimes it speeds things up. If they clear the application today you should be able to go into the office to find out the number tomorrow or Thursday.

I guess I will pass along my bit of good news. My wife passed her Naturalization interview this morning.

12/08/08: Interview @ 1:00pm. APPROVED!

01/05/09: Oath Ceremony 10:00AM. Now officially a USC!!!

CONGRATULATIONS mdyoung. I read your review and I didnt know they did background checks for naturalization.

About calling, I know you had said not to call the SSA 1-800#, but I still did, the lady was nice and told me she couldnt help me coz she had no way of identifying me. Anyways, I called the local number of the office I went to apply. I finally got through as it was busy all day and the girl was nice enough to help me. She told me my info would be released either yesterday or today for a number, so I'll go tomorrow to see if i can get a print out or friday.

CONGRATULATIONS mdyoung. I read your review and I didnt know they did background checks for naturalization.

They take fingerprints and the FBI checks you out. It's not a background check like you would get for a security clearance. It's probably more of a criminal background check to make sure she isn't wanted here or back in the Philippines.
