Problem entering former visa number in DS-160?

I am filling out the DS-160 so that my fiancee can schedule her appointment with the consulate in Juarez. She speaks Spanish so it is easier for me to fill it out. She will do the last part with her daughter looking over her shoulder.

My fiancee has a border crossing card which doubles as a B1/B2 visa. In one section of the DS-160, it asks to fill out the visa number if you have a prior visa. It says to enter the 8 digit visa number, or if you have a border crossing card, to enter the 12 digit number which is the last number on the first line of the optically scanned numbers. On that card, the last number is 12 digits like the instructions say, and it starts with 3 letters (NVL) which comes from the issuing station (Nuevo Laredo) which matches other instructions I have. Every time I try to save the form, it says the number is an incorrect format.

Has anybody else had this problem?

My advice would be for you to contact the embassy/consulate and check with them. Perhaps other members on here can give you a better answer.

Is it 12 numbers with the 3 letters or without? If you've tried filling it out without the letters, have you tried with them and vise-versa?

I had the same issue. I selected the "DO NOT KNOW" option because of this... Should I resubmit if theres a fix?

Visa numbers are the 8 digit number in red on a physical visa.  12 alpha numeric on the back of the card at the end of the top scan line starting with MEX on a BCC.  So on a DS160 use DO not know.

I selected do not know so i could continue filling out the form.. ive already finished but am not sure to submit yet...

Ive got the mexican bcc .. and as stated i introduce the last 12 numbers of the scan.. it starts with MTM which is the place of issue (Matamoros)

Since it does not work per the instructions, just click I don't know and tell the consular officer at the interview.   It isn't a big deal.

Hi there, did you ever found out how to fill out the 8 digits visa number ? I am in the same predicament, my mom's bbc has 9 numbers. Thanks.
