How can you compare the U.S. Government to an Islamic country ruled by Islamic law? These types of stats exist everywhere in the world. But if you want to compare women's rights in the western world to those in the Middle East? It's against the law to beat your wife here. That's one major difference Ftr. If someone violates the law they'll be arrested. But there are always people that do not comply with our laws, which is why we have cops

But that doesn't mean there isn't more we can do to prevent spousal abuse. Our laws are alive and are often updated to that end.

not to mention the fact she gave stats for the COUNTRY. big deal, whoopty doo. Now, I'm not claiming that there aren't christians that contribue to those stats, that would of course be naive. But if she really wanted to do her homework properly, she would also make note of: what percent is done by muslims, what percent is done by blacks, what percent by hispanics, what percent by jews and other minorities, etc. It's useless to talk about it just as a country only because for the most part it is a "christian nation".

Nobody pretended that. What you're missing is that while different things exist in different magnitudes everywhere, does not mean there is anything wrong with pointing out there's an unusual magnitude for certain things in certain places.

In all seriousness, I think you missed GandD's point. No one is weighing the significance of women dying in the US vs other nations. The point was that laws are in place to protect women here where as in other nations such actions as you discuss are actually condoned and sanctioned by the state.

Laws are in place but hard to get them to protect you. Have you ever tried to get a restraining order? I have and wasn't able to gain one with mouds of evidence. I eventually had to change my job, where I lived and more. And besides, when someone wants to do something to you, a restraining order means jack. Ask all of the dead women in the U.S.

Ok folks, I've removed all posts relating to "the comment".

The goal was to head off the conversation before it headed south and it didn't work..... clearly. Lets all take a step back and change gears. I'll leave the thread open but I'm asking that we not discuss something I removed. I mean, the entire point of me removing it was to leave it out of the discussion. Common ground is the key here. This forum runs much better when we're not all taking shots across the bow at one another. I'll have to thread ban the next person that makes a personal attack or mentions the one I removed and I don't really want to. Nor do I really want to have a discussion on what anyone thinks I should be doing.

Same here in Mass, just walk in and say you're afraid of someone and presto, RO in hand. What's really sad about it is that more than half of them are unwarranted, it ends up overloading the system and hurting the women that really need help. It's also something that stays with the man permanently, it's nearly impossible to have an RO removed from your record once it's been issued. In Mass, it's extremely difficult to get any sort of a firearm license or FID card with an RO on your record. I wish more people would stop and think a bit before allowing vengeance to take over your train of thought.
