I did not get that from that statement. I believe it goes back to what Oriz and I were talking about earlier, religion and politics should be separated by a wall, just like our snuff-sniffing forefathers said they should. ALL religions.

I agree but I don't think its possible. Unless only atheists were allowed to be in politics. Or "just in case" religious people I suppose. Not that it would matter. The voters make religion an important issue in politics.

The modern african slave trade started in 869 between African kings and the Middle East.

I have to hand it to the Romans. They enslaved everyone equally.

And gave you a way out sometimes.

But it's on the politician if he or she panders to that level of ignorance. They should know better than their constituents. They should be the ones educating the people on their misconceptions, rather than pandering, by virtue of Freedom of Religion laws, as though they were justified or necessary. They should stop feeding their constituents swill, instead of leading them to the trough.

Yes it does, but I still wouldn't vote for an evangelical like Mike Huckabee for the same reason.

Gosh, no.

I missed the good stuff :diablo:

I always do.

Replace Christianity with Judaism and that would be correct. Christians teach that Mosaic law ended with Jesus, making this another pointless analogy. You'll have to tangle with Oriz about Jewish practices but I highly doubt that they either teach, practice, or make this part of their law today.

First time I hear of it!

Who went over there looking to buy slaves Expat?

What is the orgin of the word "Slave" Marvin?

HINT:

The Islamic World was a main factor in slavery. After the Muslim conquests of North Africa and most of the Iberian peninsula (632–750), the Islamic world became a huge importer of Saqaliba (Slavic) slaves from central and eastern Europe. The Muslim powers of Iberia both raided for slaves and purchased slaves from European merchants, often the Jewish Radhanites, one of the few groups who could easily move between the Christian and Islamic worlds. Records of Jewish participation in the slave trade go back to the 5th century. Olivia Remie Constable wrote: "Muslim and Jewish merchants brought slaves into al-Andalus from eastern Europe and Christian Spain, and then re-exported them to other regions of the Islamic world." The etymology of the English word slave recalls this period, as the word sklabos means Slav.

That's your people. Seems you are the one who needs to cough up the answers.

Anyone that tries that is going to get beat in an election by someone that voters already agree with.

I ask again. Who went over there and bought slaves? You answered your own question, now answer mine. Unless you can convince me that slavery and discrimination in the US was operated by Muslims.

You do realize that slaves were a part of pretty much every empire through human history?

But would the real burden not be on the christians who bought and traded slaves? Weren't they accountable for their actions, and their laws, passed on their interpretation of the apocrypha, made to fit their interests?

There's a cool idea. Hold the people who landed in a place with thriving slave markets accountable for slavery and leave out all mention of the markets themselves.

They're equally accountable, and should be equally mentioned.

Early Torah, conquest of Canaan. I am sure those practices don't apply today LOL

I was horrible in bible lessons. I don't even believe they should teach bible in schools. Unless it's a religious, private school.

Other translations say 'contentious', if that means anything.

I'm not his woman. He doesn't know what I cause or don't cause in my house. I have to be considered brawling or contentious because I have an opinion? Maybe his comment is a reflection of what happens in his house.

Yep, never said it wasn't. But there seems to be this strong push to look at it everywhere EXCEPT here in the US.

Never even implied so.

Slavery and discrimination in the US was practiced by Christians and the slaves were sold to them by Muslims. The Christians have long since abolished this but the Muslim practice of and engagement in slavery is still, today, alive and well.

It is hypocritical for a Muslim to feign concern for long-abolished practices while today, currently, fundamental Islamic law allows and encourages the practice. Furthermore, it is hypocritical for someone who IS concerned about past practices of slavery and discrimination to embrace Islam where slavery is active and legally practiced.
