“I will do everything that I can to rid this country of the ugly stain of racism.”

BERNIE 2016!

Things became very emotional and personal when Bernie Sanders answered a question from a young woman during a rally at George Mason University.

This Wednesday night, Remaz Abdelgader, a senior at the school and a woman of Muslim beliefs, told Sanders that the anti-Muslim rhetoric that comes from the Republican candidates made her “sick.” Singling out the comments of Ben Carson and Donald Trump in particular, she concluded by simply asking Sanders what he thought of the comments coming from them and others.

Sanders called her up onto the stage and hugged her before beginning his response on a very personal note. He affirmed his Jewish faith, a fact he does not often speak publicly about, and then stated that his own father’s family died in a concentration camp. He then vowed that he would do everything he could to “rid this country of the ugly stain of racism, which has existed for far too many years.”

Sanders acknowledged that there was, indeed, hatred being generated against Muslim populations in the US, and he tied this hatred to the greater, historical racism that has pervaded this country. He continued by recounting the long history of the rich pitting the lower class against themselves by dividing them:

They told white workers who were earning pennies an hour, ‘Hey, you think you’re in trouble, but you’re better off than the blacks who can’t drink at a water fountain or go to your school.’ And they told straight people, ‘You’re better off than those gay people, right?’ And they pitted men against women. They’re always playing one group against another. Rich got richer — everybody else was fighting each other. Our job is to build a nation in which we all stand together.

He concluded his response by vowing that, as president, he will lead the effort against all forms of racism.

These comments are in stark contrast to the comments made by Donald Trump, who has taken hard-line positions on immigration issues and just today made insensitive comments about Muslim burqas, and Ben Carson, who stated clearly that the US should not elect a Muslim president.

After the event, Abdelgader expressed approval for Sanders’ words in an interview with Alice Ollstein of Think Progress:

“If there’s anyone that should be elected to the White House, it’s him. He stands for everybody, whether you’re gay or Muslim or black or Christian or Latino. He is for equality. That’s why I identify with the next president of the United States: Bernie Sanders.”

On a more serious note. I just don't have a candidate

I love some of the GOP points, like Flat Taxes or very simplified tax code. Couples making under 50K a year not paying. I love the idea of finally fixing immigration. I love Rand Paul's views on stopping military expansion in other countries. Finally trying to balance the budget. Etc.

They lose me on Gay rights, abortion and several other liberty related issues. My big loser is Repeal Obama care and let the free market run. Uh idiots we tried that, without much luck.. we have gt to fix health care. INMHO it has gotten more crazy. The real culprit, Big insurance and Big Pharma .

And The Dems. Lets just fund more programs.. Stupid.

Dude you're supposed to be keeping the investment thread updated and have been slacking.

Well there's really nothing new to add. Everything is as I left it last - marginal new highs possible but not guaranteed, and in either case major bear market very soon.

BUT...if you already brought that up - one of the only things I agree with Bernie on is that the FED needs to go.

Audit, Abolish, either way - just get rid of those morons and the damage they do already.
