we applied for SSN today and the person said that the Ss is valid for work.i dnt know if im hearing it right. i thought i have to apply for AOS and wait for the letter from the Immigration. is this true?

When your SSN arrives, it will state ''valid for work only with authorization''... in this way yes an immigrant under this category is valid for working, they just can't until they are authorized to do so by obtaining an EAD or a green card.

Once you receive your green card then you'll need to return to the Social Security Office to get that restriction removed.

Once you receive your green card then you'll need to return to the Social Security Office to get that restriction removed.

That is optional, not required. The only time you must go and get the wording removed is after naturalising and becoming a US citizen.
