Hello,

I figured I could try to have some advice here before contacting the Embassy. We contacted them regarding one document already and they answered that they will send you instructions which they haven't and my interview is in 22 days. If a document is missing I need to know really soon so that my husband can send it.

So, I have some doubts about whether to follow the NVC instructions, Paris instructions or both... (When I refer to Paris instructions, I mean the ones that can be downloaded from nvc.state.gov/interview.)

The reason why I have doubts is because they don't exactly ask for the same things :

  • In the P4 letter, the petitioner’s birth certificate is marked F “The NVC did not request this form or document”, does this mean that it was not asked before but that it still needs to be brought to the interview? This document is not listed in the Paris Embassy instructions. My husband was not born a US citizen and the document provided to the NVC instead was his naturalization certificate.
  • The Paris instructions mention that the original affidavit of support also needs to be brought. This document has been sent to the NVC and is marked Y (“The NVC sent this form or document to the Embassy or Consulate”) on the P4 Letter. Does this mean I need to ask my husband to send me another form? (ps : the tax return used is the most recent one).
  • The form DS-260 appears on the NVC list as “submitted online” whereas the instructions specific to Paris show the form DS-260 as an item that is required for the interview. Does that apply to electronic submission too? Or should I print it and bring it to the interview?

If anyone was in the same situation, what solution did you find?

Thanks a lot for your help!!

* The petitioner's birth certificate is only required in cases where the beneficiary is a parent or a sibling (IR 5 & F4)

* Yeah, you should carry copies of the forms with you to the interview in case they lose it in the package or something happens. You don't want them to say bring it back later and delay getting your visa.

* You just need to bring the confirmation page for the DS-260 to the interview. If you want to print the whole thing, you could do that as well.

On the P4 letter it will tell you what they will want for the originals. At the embassy they will ask you for all of the originals that are listed on the P4 letter. You could bring the petitioner's birth certificate but I doubt they will even ask for it.

On our P4 letter the affidavit of support was also marked Y. When we went to the interview they had the 864 form there in front of them. As you stated the tax return used is the current one you would have already submitted your documents to NVC which in case will just forward to the embassy. As far as financial documents needed they handed me back (petitioner) my financial documents and then asked me if there was any other documents that I wished to add. I said no, and then they moved on.

On the DS-260 form I printed the whole thing. We brought it to the embassy and then they just tore off that first confirmation sheet. So you just need to bring the first confirmation sheet.

Hope this helps you out.

Also we brought tons of ongoing evidence with us and we weren't asked for anything other than the originals listed on the P4 form. Just saying!

Thank you for your answers!

I don't understand why the two instructions are not the same. I feel like they do that to confuse people...

We are almost there, I need to remain patient! :)

Thanks again!
