Hey peoples!

So, I'm thinking way ahead, as I still haven't had NOA2 yet. But I was wondering how dental works in USA? Right now in UK I pay privately, and I know states has Obamacare (like the NHS in UK) but is dental covered on that? And when do we qualify for Obamacare?

Any help appreciated!

I am the beneficiary originally from UK !!

Hi Emmy! Hope your case is moving along well.

Sadly, dental care is NOT usually considered part of the healthcare plan. In fact, it is not required to have dental coverage, but of course you must have medical. There are dental plans available but just be very careful because sometimes you get a terrible plan that covers 1 x-ray and 1 cleaning. That will get you nowhere and it will upset you if and when you need dental treatment. Some people get lucky and their work offers them great dental care plans, but sadly this is not the norm. Delta dental has some of the best dental coverage I have seen, as far as the amount they cover and the deductible, but not sure how pricey it is if work is not helping with it.

While dental care is very important and can lead/cause more general health issues. Yes here it is separate coverage and on the whole kind of sucks. Very much only geared toward preventative / maintenance. ANY remotely substantive work you will need done will not be covered well and you can quickly 'out kick' your coverage.

Thanks for reminding me as if you have any significant work to be done depending on how well it is there, I'd encourage to proactively get stuff done before coming here. I might suggest my fiance do the same

Thanks for your help guys! I have to have a root canal soon, and it just made me think about my teeth when I am in the states... I'm pretty good at getting checked out and hygienist visits twice a year so it's something I want to be able to continue!
