Hello everyone,

First of all, let me thank you for being here and help. Ok, I brought my fiancee here couples of years ago, and everything is going great. We have one adorable daughter and so far life is being good (nothing major though). She wanted me to bring her mother here, but our finance is not in good shape. I'm the only one bringing income, and I tried to reason her, but she wouldn't understand, she wants her in the states right now. I sent all the necessary documents to the embassy for my mother in law visa application. She did obtain the visa (B1/B2 Visa) on October the 13th 2015. Now we need to buy a ticket that cost around $1500, money I don't have. I want to use our tax refund( February 2016) money to book her a ticket. I'm wondering how long she has before coming to the states? Thank you for your time.

This seems like it could be in the tourist visa forum.

What kind of visa was it? a 10 yr multientry ? Isn't their an expiration on the visa?

Doesn't that mean she can come as much as she wants for max 6mos at a time w/in 3 yrs?

PS you may want to adjust your dependents on your tax forms so you aren't getting as big a tax return.

She can enter as much as she wants, over that 3 year period, but the duration of the stay is determined by the CBP agent that conducts her entry interview. My Fiance entered into the US for a visit and was granted 6 months which seems to be standard, but unlike some Visa's the duration of stay isn't printed on the Visa, it's written on the Entry stamp by the CBP official. So it is possible that they could issue a lesser stay duration.

well the original OP is if she can stall a few months before ever using which seems like the answer is yes if she has a multi trip visitor visa that seems good for 3 yrs.

It means she can seek entry into the US during the 3 years that the visa is valid.

She can be admitted for 6 months or less. It's often 6 months, but it could be less on any trip at the discretion of the CBP.

If she is spending more time in the US than outside the US, she can lose her visa for abusing to de facto live here.

The visa gets her to the door to enter the US. It does not guarantee that she will be allowed in.

I think what missik is trying to ask is the validity of the B1/B2 visa to enter the US. He wanted to buy the ticket in February but the visa was issued in October. I am not really sure of my answer but I think for the tourist visa you have to enter the US within 6 months from the date of issue.

Maybe you guys could confirm or correct me if I am wrong.
