I'm pretty sure you won't need a visa for Canada since (as per the extension letter) your permanent residence is extended for one year.

For those travelling to Canada I wouldn't worry at all about the extension letter as Canadian and American immigration are on the same page in most matters and I'm SURE Canadian immigration have seen this letter before. Id be more concerned if I were travelling overseas to Asia or the Mid east (which is where I'm going)

PS I'm jealous and wish I was travelling to Canada because it's awesomeeeeeee :P.

Wow... I just received an RFE asking for documents that I already submitted. The ONLY thing on the list that I didn't provide was joint mortgage agreements because the house is not under my name. such BS.

Congrats, in same boat! Was explaining that indeed house was bought far before I entered this country.

Soooo what additional documents are you sending?! I could really use some ideas as I only have a few days to respond to this before I travel.

I included:

- Affidavits from two people who we work/socialize with

- A document showing me as the primary beneficiary on his life insurance

- My Military dependent ID listing husband as sponsor

- My husband's leave and earning statement showing he is married (this isn't that great evidence though because it doesnt have my name on it)

- Joint bank account statements

- A copy of my passport with my husband's name listed on it.

- Joint auto insurance

- A health insurance claim document showing both our names and address

- joint tax returns

LOL I am literally out of ideas right now.

Wen to the bank and asked them to print tons of statements from different years with their stamp for each period. Copies of credit cards with same number and last statements. In words explanation about lack of rental/lease/etc for the property. Some fresh papers with my name and same address like remodel house and buying stuff for, even labels with shipped husband;s clothes bought by me and shipped here. And of course tax forms for 2015-they sure didn't see them.

I got approved without sending any rental or paperwork with both name on it. I own my home before I got married to my husband.

Can I ask how many bank statements you initially sent? Also how many years worth of tax returns did you send? Did you send returns or transcripts?

I sent them one month's bank statement for a joint checking and savings account including all transactions (to include salary deposits). We also sent them two years of jointly filed tax returns (form 8879, one of which included the combat pay tax exemption).

We both have our own credit cards and are authorized users on each so I asked the bank to send a letter saying my husband is an authorized user on my card.

We don't have any loans out except for the mortgage which is obviously under my husband's name since he bought the house before we got married and - being an immigrant - I had no credit history when I first moved here that would qualify me for loans (and we never had a need for them!!!).

The bizarre thing is, for my first 2-year green card, we actually got it expedited and I received it in 3-months.

Did I understand you correctly? You only sent 1 bank statement? USCIS likes to see continuity...so bank statements from the inception of your marriage to the time of filing. You don't have to include every single month's statement if you didn't want to but at least quarterly. Sending 1 bank statement could be enough to trigger an RFE. The mortgage thing shouldn't be a problem.

Yes I only sent in one month's bank statement. I figured they'd give more weight to the tax filings than the bank statement but I guess I was wrong. I'll send them one from each quarter thanks for the advice!

Spoke to a Tier 2 who was actually useful. Went through my previous package and said there isn't much else I can send them (besides the additional bank statements) She said and I quote "sometimes the case officer doesn't go through the entire package, so just re-send what you sent before". What a waste of paper (and time). I'm going to send them a huge package and have all the documents notarized.
