Hey guys,

I am trying to decide if I should get engaged or get married. My future-spouse lives overseas in Pakistan. Our plan was to get married but i'm leaning on having my wedding in the states - unless getting married speeds up the visa process. I am an American citizen(born in the states) .


Can someone please confirm? Also, can someone share a link to a thread or tell me what the steps are on how to apply for my fiance?

It's not about what you petition its about the service center. You have decide what works best for you and gets you the best success (Approval)

You should do what you want to do. If you want to marry in the US, then pursue a fiancé visa. If you want to get married overseas, then do that and pursue a spousal visa. It is generally quicker to bring a fiancé here than a spouse, but there are also other things to consider.

Usually the K-1 (fiance visa) is a bit shorter than CR-1 (spousal visa). But, it costs more and your fiancee won't have their GC as soon as they enter the states or be able to work.

You may want to read up in the Pakistan forums. Some countries are more difficult for K1 than others.
