Is it hard to pass port of entry, even with an approved tourist visa?

We are in Hong Kong for vacation, and when we fly back to the U.S, the mother in law will be tagging along and staying for a couple weeks. She still has her 10 year tourist visa from about 3 years ago, and this will be her second visit to the U.S. She does r really have a payroll or proof of employment since her income comes from her kids. I am a U.S citizen, wife is green card. What's the chance of there being an issue once we land?

Her personal situation was the exact same as last time, and she did not have to show proof of personal ties. On her last visit, she was visiting a family friend, so she got an invite letter. This time around, she is flying back with us, so obviously that is not needed

That bodes well for her then(invitation letters really don't do much in most cases). Hopefully she will get a CBP officer who is having a good day and all will go smoothly.
