I had my interview on the 28th, my husband is in the navy and currently deployed so I went to the interview without him. I took a navy letterhead letter from the highest person from my husbands command with numbers and people to contact as proof of deployment however the interviewer said he couldn't accept it as proof and needed his orders. He did the interview and sent me away saying I would be receiving a letter requesting further evidence as he couldn't reach a decision until he has my husbands orders, and from the date of that letter I would have 90 days to submit his orders. After talking to my husband under no circumstances could I or anyone have copies of orders as its extremely confidential as obviously they're still on deployment. My husband can get another letter from his command to explain why he couldn't attend the interview on that particular day but they cannot give me orders. I'm going to call the USCIS tomorrow to talk to them about it because I'm not sure what I can do, has anyone been through similar or have any advice?

Tell your husband to ask his security manager to see if he can give you a copy of his orders with anything classified blacked out (ie location, name of ship, etc). I'm not 100% sure for special forces or TS missions, but generally, the dates of his deployment and his name on the orders wouldn't be classified.

Personally, I haven't had any issues giving deployment orders to my spouse and even to landlords to get out of leases early.

I smell fish.

His orders shouldn't be classified. Even SOF guys have unclassified orders they can give to landlords, banks, etc. While his location, mission, and ops details might be confidential and OPSEC should most certainly be observed, there is no way he does not have some form of unclassified TAD order that he can give to USCIS.

Now, if it's still that difficult, which it shouldn't be, have your husband get in touch with his security officer (as stated above) to get you the documentation needed. I've meddled with the Navy on a few occasions in joint environments, and while they got their own way of doing things, orders are pretty standard across the board.

I am the USC.

Contact your husbands homeport command ombudsman. Thats what they are there for to help laison between spouses and command leadership. Husband can contact Command Master Chief and chaplain if his personnel office will not provide him a copy of deployment orders. Deployment orders are a normal part of Navy life. Should be a non-issue.
