This should be the last thing me and my fiancee need help with, hopefully.

She's putting the finishing touches on her packet and has just one last thing she's not sure of. On question 22 of form DS-230 it asks 'In what occupation do you intend to work within the US?'

She does intend to work, but doesn't know which industry or occupation yet, and won't until she has work clearance in the US. Is it okay to just put 'Unknown' here? We've checked the VJ example forms, but they don't really give a clear answer.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, a few new questions have popped up and I don't want to start yet another thread. First let me apologize to you all for being so pesky today.

My fiancee was also sent form DS-157, which is required for MALE applicants. Seeing as my fiancee is a woman, does she need to bother filling this out? Can she just throw it away? I'm confused because VJ's example form is filled about by a 'woman.'

Also, when she was sent her packet, she was only given form DS-230 part 1. Is this normal? Is part 1 all she needs to send to the embassy?

Thank you all so much for your continued help and support. It means the world to us.

I've been pondering your DS-157 question myself, this link seems to be the most informative of any:

http://www.***removed***/forms/ds-157.html

It seems to vary on country, Countries that have high rates of HIV, medical ineligibility, criminal convictions etc, seem to require all applicants fill it out. That doesn't answer my question either, but its a short form so I am just going to fill it out for her just in case.

The little comment I can make on your other question is:

In general the DS-230 Part 1 is the one that needs to be faxed in first to start the Embassy working on the case, and then the rest of the docs are brought in to the interview, but the Embassy can change the procedure.

Maybe they might have answers for you in the Foreign Embassy forum here on VJ

Good Luck!

We followed the policy of "better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not be prepared." I loaded him up with 2.5 pounds of paperwork organized into a 13-pocket folder. A few forms and 4 questions later he left the embassy. But that's the better alternative over him walking out of there after hearing "you'll be approved AFTER your fiancee ships [x] across the ocean to you." So fill it out and just have her bring it with her so she has it with her in case they ask. ;)

I agree with Angilla, better safe than sorry. Have her fill out the DS-157 and send it in anyway. (PS I thought the DS-156K was only for males, and the DS157 for everyone! Oh well.)

They only send part 1 of the DS-230. They will have her sign Part 2 at the interview.
