Help! I was trying to be efficient and got my Police Certificate done in April, but because it took so long to get through TSC it is now over 6 months old and I haven't had my medical yet. The US embassy site says that it has to be within 6 months but the guides on this site says it is valid for a year. Which is correct? Do I need to apply for a new Certificate ?

HI Jude61

first of all I know how you feel with the wait, ours took 183 days for NOA2!

The ACPO Police Certificate lasts for 12 months from date of issue, I had my interview yesterday and my certificate was dated 20th Jan 2015, and was within the deadline of 20th January 2016, so you are good to go as long as you get your interview before April 2016, which I'm sure you will, Good luck :joy:

PS: start to get your case number, book medical and get the notice of readiness form in, you can be more pro active now after the long wait of Texas with nothing happening and unable to do anything about it!

Thank you so much. I got the case number from NVC and booked my medical and they confirmed that the Police Certificate is still valid within the year. However, they want me to take the letter/email from the embassy to the medical which I haven't received yet. So I'm now worried that I've been too proactive! Anyway, after waiting 280 days for the NOA2 I'm going to wing it and hope it will be OK.

Wow 280 days is ridiculous, there are people going through California moaning there NOA2 took 45 days....lol?

I didn't have a letter to take to the medical , they sent my letter to a compete stranger instead along with my compete petition packet. I just found out my case number, that was enough. Good luck with the rest f the journey. ?

Thank you RedStripe54 you've been really helpful particularly as you've gone through it all so recently. The problem I have is that the CEAC doesn't yet say my case is ready (I was hoping it would by the time of my medical on Tuesday) but it may not). So I'm a little worried that I might have screwed up, but after 10 months I'm desperate as we're hoping I can be Stateside for Christmas. Anyway, I'm still going to go to the medical and the worst they can do is turn me away.

How long was it between your medical and interview? And once you've filled out your DS160 and ready for interview forms do the embassy get in touch with you with an interview date or do you have to contact them? Many thanks.

Thanks for that, I do like to help as best I can because I know how frustrating this process can be, not forgetting so random and of course lots of bureaucratic bungles, and I've had a few of those, not my fault either.

So what does the CEAC page say, if it says IN TRANSIT, that means your case is still on way from the NVC, I notice from your timeline that NOA2 was October 13, my NOA2 was August 21st and it stayed at USCIS until the 28th when I had an update on the USCIS case status page that they had sent it to the NVC. I never had any more updates ie: when it left NVC or arrived in London until that stranger told me that she had received my packet 3 by mistake which is actually just a letter saying the Embassy has your case and will start working on it.

I actually went and saw the lady and recovered my documents and noticed the official envelope was dated 16th September, so going by all those dates I worked out that my case was at NVC from just after 28th August until London received it and sent out that letter dated the 16th September. So that is a total of 3 weeks from it going to NVC to getting the packet 3. (sorry if that looked complicated, mine was) I booked and passed medical on 22nd September and filled out DS-160 and notice of readiness from all by 22nd September. YOU DO NOT BOOK THE INTERVIEW THE EMBASSY DOES, after receiving DS-160, readiness form and results of medical which can take 3-5 days to get back to the embassy (don't forget each case is different though, I used to monitor other peoples timelines in London and they can be stuck at NVC for longer for whatever reason.

I received my packet 4 letter on the 7th October and my interview was the 29th, approx 3 weeks later which I understand is average. ( tip put an earlier date you want to be in the US on the notice of readiness form)

So in summary going by my timings your case might still be in transit, apparently if you do the medical too soon when the Embassy receives the results they will not have a case to match it up with and that could be a problem. I hope I have given you enough facts to help make a decision, sorry it went on a bit but my case was different because of the missing packet 3, I was lucky in a way as I timed it all right and their mistake delayed it by about 7-9 days which is a lot after our long wait. You can also look at Nick-Nich's very helpful UK K1 Fiancee Visa guideline, its on VJ. also call the NVC and ask if your case is there or on way to London.

Thank you for taking the time to give me all of that information - it's really useful. And it sounds as if you've really been screwed around too! The CEAC website says there is no data for my case number even though they were sent the papers 3 weeks this Tuesday. My fiancé rang NVC last week and they gave him my case number so they must have the papers but they may not yet have sent my papers to London or they haven't updated the website (like yours). Anyway, I'm going to push ahead and hope that my papers arrive in London by the time my medical results reach the embassy. This is the first time in 10 months where I feel that I can actually try and do something to move it along and surely it's not beyond the wit of man to tie up 2 sets of papers when they get to the embassy (I know, they have the ability to bungle anything as your case proves!).

I plan to submit my DS160 and readiness form after I've had the medical.

When are you planning to get married? Good luck with everything and thank you again.

Yes I agree, once the case leaves the worm hole of Texas, you can be more proactive and try and get it moving quicker! Sounds a good plan, go to your medical, and by then your case maybe in London, good luck on the rest of your journey ?

We will get married in St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US and I think the most romantic. Date? Probably just after Thanksgiving and before the Xmas period sounds about right for us. good luck again , let me know what happens.

Hi Nich-Nick,

Yes I am, so I'm not really sure what's going on but I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. I just hope it doesn't get delayed arriving in London after I've had my medical.

RedStripe54 - good luck with the wedding preparations. How nice to finally be able to be thinking about that day.
