SSN and marriage

When I arrive in the US (praying for June!) we basically wanted a week together at home before we head to Las Vegas to be married. I've read before that its best to get SSN before marriage but why is that? We dont want to wait the time it takes to get the SSN before we get married, partly due to the fact I need to register to the college course I'll be attending in the fall , at the beginning of June (Because they will accept me as a military spouse without a greencard). Also as I'll be living in Tucson, AZ, I will NEED a car to be able to live there, and I have read that licenes for AZ can be obtained with a k1 visa if you have proof that you have applied for AOS - do you think getting married before I apply for it will stop me from getting one? Hope that makes sense! lol! Thanks

Um I think so.

You probably won't be able to get a SS number for 2-3 weeks after your arrival anyway. It takes a bit of time for your entry to show up in the their system.

Some states require a SSN to be able to get married, you might want to check that out.

They're getting married in Vegas, no SSN's are needed there

JamalNTam, I guess, if you don't apply for a SSN before marriage, you'll have to wait for your EAD to get it.

As mentioned before, it takes AT LEAST two weeks for you to show up in the system after you enter the USA. If you want a SSN before marriage you will need to leave getting married for a bit longer than a week.

Why do you have to wait for the EAD before applying for the SSN if you get married 1st?? I'm kinda stuck and dont know what to do! I have to have SSN for my driving licence (which I will need) but I need to apply for my college course in my married name in June!! This is all frustrating!!
