Sooo, should I distract all you who are waiting for NOA2's before the weekend with a beginner question?

My receipt number shows up in the USCIS case tracker now, but the "received" date is different than the date I got the e-notification. Can someone clarify which is the best one to use for your timeline/estimation purposes? (Please don't tell me to search the forums or look at the guides....I did, and read about 20 different threads about it, and it's still unclear...)

Good catch! The receipt date is the correct one..........

I used the date in the e-notification. I am looking at my case receipt and it says "Nov 2", which is 2 days sooner.

Now I am depressed. My real NOA1 date is not the 4th, but the 2nd. Where is my paper bag.........

 I'm with you, I hate it when the 'smart' people say go look for it.

Back it up. It is the date on the letter: http://www.visajourney.com/images/noa-date.jpg

I'm still good...4 Nov. Panic attack avoided.........close call

Grrr....that means I have to wait for the actual piece of paper in the mail? I know it's only the difference of a couple days, but I need something to focus on/obsess about...

Glad you're ok again James. Step away from the paper bag for now....there's still at least an hour in the california work day, right?

I was looking through the October fillers and some people got their RFE after a month or even more after Noa1 while others already got their NVC numbers. :(

Theoretically....if you all are on track for NOA2 any day now, wouldn't you have already received an RFE if one was coming? Or am I wrong and you're never really safe from RFE until you actually get the NOA2?

Well normally yes that's what I thought but out of curiosity I checked the october fillers and thats were people were complaing that a month passed or 45 days and instead of a NOA2 they got a RFE instead. So my guess is that yes your not safe until you get Noa2
