Congrats,

It might take a while, the bio-metrics appointment letter will get to you in about 4 weeks after that it's the waiting game again.

Is it taking longer than normal these days?

Can my wife get a social security number while green card paperwork is being processed?

I ordered my wife's social the week we arrived, then after we got married we did the name change. Then after the name change went thru we got her a state ID. Then we submitted the AOS

No she can get her social as soon as she gets here. My wife got her social the week she got here. Then we got married and then changed the name. You do not have to wait til the EAD.

Yes, she could have gotten it right after she arrived, and up until she had at least several weeks remaining on her I-94.

However, since her I-94 has expired, she now unfortunately has to wait for EAD in order to be able to get one. She won't be able to get one with her I-485 NOA1.

Hi! I am the green card holder, i would like to bring my parents to the US. When I got my EAD card it says at the back that a permanent resident can sponsor the immigration of certain relative. It's quite confusing coz some says that you have to be a US Citizen before you can petition a relative, but it doesn't say on the USCIS website that it is one of the criteria. can someone enlighten me please. thank you!

I can attest to this. I had a co worker from Pakistan who was a LPR for some years. She also wanted to bring her parents but couldn't because LPR's don't have that option for parents. You can be a sponsor, as in fill out the I-864 financial thing for someone, but you can't directly petition them. Now that she's a citizen she is able to petition them and is starting that process.

the good news about that is (from USCIS website)" For immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, visas are always available, which means that your family member does not need to wait in line for a visa"

From the USCIS website:

As a green card holder (permanent resident), you may petition for certain family members to immigrate to the United States as permanent residents.

You May Petition For The Following Family Members:

  • Spouse (husband or wife)
  • Unmarried children under 21
  • Unmarried son or daughter of any age

HI!!!

Long time since I've been on site. Everyone seems to be doing great. Which is wonderful.

Today Niman (son) received his letter of approval! No interview. Mom is unknown.

Our new addition is now 27 weeks. And is a GIRL. The ultrasound shows her to be very intelligent like her mom, and very beautiful like her dad :wow:

We got both "Green Cards" today! No interview no complications. Even the wait was easy. Well not that easy with Aisha carrying our little princess baby and the various pains associated with the experience--my first. No midnight runs to the store for ice cream and pickles (yet) :sleepy: .

The cards did come with 2 year expiration with a category CF1. So in a year and a half we have to show we are a happily married couple.
