Finally got our case number today...after almost two months of phone calls and emails to NVC and USCIS trying to figure out what the heck happened. First phone call to NVC back in January - they said they had received it but no case number yet. All subsequent phone calls until today - receipt number did not exist in their system and I got a multitude of suggestions; someone at USCIS even said I'd have to go talk to an immigration officer in person!

Now we can finally move forward...but the expiration notice on the NOA2 is in May and she isn't going to be here by then...is that automatically extended or do I have to do something to get it extended?

K-1 visa is good for 6 months--have to enter the USA within that time period. As long as interview is completed before the date in May--which should be easily doable. Everyone loves Canadians--- A

How does one know if the embassy has received our petition from the nvc?

The embassy in dheli doesn't have human people to answer questions like that so they just transfer to an automated system that has nothing to do with the question whether they have received it or sent it to my fiancé.

Check CEAC website. As a K1, when checking your case online at CEAC you have to select "immigrant visa" as it is treated like as such even though it is a "non-immigrant visa". Don't ask why, as no one has been able to articulate why!

It will case ready for interview or some such thing. It also might say case received then to ready. I forget exactly.

So I looked on the website and found out that our case is ready to go on to the interview stage but my fiance hasn't received any letter from the embassy yet. Do we have to wait for the packet of instructions from the embassy still?

Follow the instructions here:

http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-iv-kvisa.asp#otherinfo

Also, you are asking others who are trying to get their arms around what they need to do for processing through their Embassy. Each Embassy has there own process and can be different from yours. I suggest finding the sub-forum for New Dehili and ask your questions to be better served by others who have process before you. They are the ones with the best answers.

The NOA2 is good for one year. The Embassy will extend it for 4 months at a time till it reaches it expiry date.

@landl...

U got to wait for 2-3 weeks for their letter with instructions.. I got mine in 15 days.. N also the status "ready" is updated two times by the embassy.. First when they recieve the case.. N second when they mail u the letter.. Check updation date on the status check page of ceac website.. Check everyday.. When the date changes that means ur letter is mailed.. In the meanwhile u should apply for police clearance certificate (pcc) at regional passport office or passport sewa kendra (psk).. If ur passport is older than a year, it will take them around 2 weeks to issue the same as police verification is required.. But if u have a new passport not older than a year, u will get it the same day of ur appointment at psk.. Second step is medical and vaccination.. Third step is DS160 online.. Fourth step is to pay the embassy fee.. And finally schedule the interview.. Good luck mate..

Hey Guys,

I am not an October filer, but I had a few questions if y'all don't mind me sneaking in on your thread!

Ok so..... We files last November and got approved (yay) this February! Our status has changes from no status to now issued. What does that mean exactly? And how long before could we expect to get the visa? Also is there another fee to pay once the visa is ready? Our consulate is in Haiti.

If anyone has dealt with a similar situation please enlighten me.

MERCI BEAUCOUP ?

After all this waiting, I finally have a date to look forward to for my fiance to arrive here. She will be here on March 31st. We will be getting married on May 7th. These next 3 weeks are going to feel like forever! I am happy to start planning stuff though, that should keep me busy. All I know is when we are together, I will never take our time for granted.

Congrats!!

thank you maspas!! :goofy:

Yaaay congrats to you!!! Hip hip hooray!!

thank you!!!! :dancing:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :thumbs::thumbs::star::star::thumbs::thumbs:

You know that is a lesson for all of us "petitioners". We have it easy, it is the beneficiary that has the real tough part of this process.

Why do I say that?

Well let's look at the process. Petitioner submits documents to USCIS. They either approve, issue RFE, or deny. If RFE or deny we just resubmit with whatever was missing. That's about it. We can take all the time we want to prepare the documents, and we have a 2nd chance if we mess up.

Beneficiary has one shot. Sure there is a chance for a administrative processing or RFE, but essentially anything but an immediate approval is a long shot for approval. The pressure is on them to have a 'good' interview. Otherwise 6 months down the drain (california, or a year or more Texas).

Think about that pressure.

:thumbs:I tip my hat to all you Beneficiaries--superstars! You guys ROCK---- :thumbs:

thank you!! :content::content::content: YES it truly was so nervewrecking, I think I grew gray hair just in the weeks prior and day of the interview :shocked: but, thankfully from all the love I see in this forum, I can see how all of us make a great team with our fiances!! hats off to all of us :thumbs:
