hey friends... i have a question.. my interview is on 15th this month.. my fiancee is preparing documents for affidavit of support... the thing is.. she filled her income tax return this year of a particular amount, but she got promoted a couple of months back... so the actual annual income is a bit high now.. so what should we fill in the annual income column of i-134 form.. the new income or the income shown on W2s forms and income tax returns? although i must say there is not a huge diffrence as the salary raise is very less !!

So many of you are so close to the finish line...with a few others heading that way. Glad you for you all. Just sent the AOS today. Paid a small $50 to get the DS-2035 transcribed to the I-693. Also had to translate my husbands birth certificate. Since I'm fluent in Spanish, and he in English (excited for bilingual babies) so it was pretty easy to do. ANYTHING in words I made sure to put the translation down...even the stamps. So if I'm getting an RFE it better not be for that :D

I am still waiting on the embassy in new dheli to send my fiancé notice to schedule interview.

I am not going to worry about what notebook to put my things in. They don't care what the notebook looks like and neither do I.

Btw, how does one know which shots they need? My fiancé has had shots before of course but she says she has no record of which ones.

regarding vaccines:

my fiancee had no records either. the hospital was able to test her immunity for several of the more common vaccinations: cheaper than getting the vaccines.

for those they were unable to test for, she had to get them. they're should be a list on your country's us embassy websight, if not there then the state department websight

@ shergills. put in the current income, as long as you have a pay stub that reflects the raise.

I was happy to be vastly over prepared for the financial part. from my reading of the instructions, they want one piece of convincing evidence from their list. I did not have a letter from a bank nor a letter from my employers (I have 20+ employers per year, most of them never meet me, I'm just a line item on their budget) nor a letter from my union. I did have several years of tax returns, and a copy of a couple recent paystubs. I sent even more to the interview; they never looked at it nor asked her any questions about it. I make more than double the minimum so I guess what I gave them was enough to convince them. the closer you are to the line, the more important I imagine it is for your proof to be compelling.

we entered the usa together last night @ jfk.

I have a generic name and for nearly a decade have had issues every time reentering the usa. if you think dealing with uscis is a pain for a fiancee visa, try getting your records, as a citizen, cleared of some error that results in being mistakenly arrested at the airport. finance visa is a breeze comparatively.

well, I did have to speak to an agent briefly but wasn't detained for an hour in the back room like usual. it actually would've been ok this time (kinda sorta) because that's the same room where my fiancee was led to. she came out remarkable quickly, but with a kind of strange look on her face. she said they took her packet and passport, told her to sit down. about 10 minutes later an officer gave her the passport back and walked away without saying anything. fiancee stood there a minute and then left, slowly, looking over her shoulder, but the officers pointedly ignored her. they didn't ask her a single question, let alone tell her she was done.

we waited 20 minutes for the baggage and then had to show our passports again to get out so if there had been some issue they certainly could have stopped her. nothing. very weird.

very very relieved and ecstatic to be here.

(not to mention great mirth at seeing my Thai love react to the just below freezing new york night, ah ha ha ha. but she is already adjusting really well)

I'm really looking forward to reading more interview/entry stories here...because there's always a story. may yours come soon, and resolve itself well!

The tax return will show what she has made in the past. A letter from her employer will show her current earnings. Both the documents give the CO a good picture if there will be a "burden on the tax payers" in the future. Use the current (new) income for I-134. They just want to have financials to insure you meet or exceed the poverty level. Good luck.

They have test that they will run on the blood sample and that will give them the information they will need to administer the shots she will need. Having no shot records is not a deal breaker. Good Luck

Congratulations on your journey. It's funny some how, your story of the immigration just seems to reinforce how government employees act.... that they are doing you a favor. I thought they worked for us not the other way around. Oy Vey

I'm taking my sweet time now after work in the mornings to photocopy my W-2's, already got my printed out Tax Returns from HR Block and ordered the transcripts from the IRS for 2014 & 2015 just for kicks, job wants a copy of the confirmation for the DS-160 before they give me an employment verification letter. > :(

I'm wondering when I should go to my bank and get the statement from the bank official, if I should do that closer to the time of the DS-160 or should I start that now?

Suggest not to give more information, financial, than necessary.

Are you basing the financial support on your assets in the bank, or your employment? You do not need to provide both; not required.

PS: My own belief, past years tax forms have zero to do with past financial performance verification. If they were used as such I know I wouldn't have been approved. Your current financial position is most important. But of course provide the 3 years, as requested.

jaime, I respectfully disagree about the influence of tax records. tax records, w-2's and one (1) paystubb were all I provided. if they had no bearing I certainly would not have been approved!

I do agree that it's not necessary to provide everything from the list of evidence. the "required evidence" list is a boiler plate designed to assess every situation (assets, employment, business ownership, etc). in your case (and I think the majority of cases) current employment is sufficient. in my case, since I am a day labourer, I only have current employment on the day I'm working, i felt it prudent to show years-on continuity in my "unstable" employment situation. I have definitely heard of embassies (including bkk) asking for 3 years of tax returns. I had 5, just in case. I would NOT recommend 5 years to anyone who has anything resembling a normal employment life.

some people over prepare by submitting hundreds of pictures. at the interview, we gave them four additional badly printed facebook photo pages. they were a bit surprised (since most people over prepare in this area) but it didn't seem to matter as we got the visa. beyond that, I can't say for sure what influence over- or under- submitting does for one's case. but in the case of my tax records, it was all I had, it didn't hurt and cost me almost nothing.

the income written in income tax return is almost double of what is required.. and in a hurry we filled the old income in i-134 as we have strong proof for that.. n my fiance have already mailed it to me.. if we present i-134 at interview, would it create problem for us? or should she again prepare the i-134 with new income and mail again.. as time is less to get it mailed.. will the old income work? m confused.. please guide me

Don't volunteer information to the CO ever. Let them ask for what they need.

Bring your I-134 and supporting documents (follow what your embassy is asking for). If your income is over the poverty level then you will breeze right through. It's those that are below or at that need a co-sponsor.

My opinion, plus $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks, I think we should all send a note to our Embassy thanking them once we have received our Visa. Why? Just because.

I used the email I used for asking questions at the embassy. This is what I sent yesterday:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Case Number: ADD____

USCIS Number: WAC_____

Applicant: Aisha _____

Petitioner: Jaime ____(me)

Hello,

We completed our interview on 25 February.

I want to personally send to the consulate staff this note of appreciation.

The security point check-in person (lady) was professional, and courteous. She took time out to assist us with organizing the initial documentation which I had organized improperly in a notebook.

According to my fiancé (Aisha), the Consulate Officer (CO) who conducted the interview was professional and friendly. The CO spoke plainly and slowly so Aisha could readily understand, and was able to complete the interview in English.

Aisha was very nervous, underwent a minor panic attack before arriving, but the staff and CO put her at ease.

The staff completed administrative processing of the Visa, and delivered the documents (Visa, etc) very promptly. Faster in fact than I had expected.

Please let the staff, and CO, know that all of you are appreciated by us. We recognize you have a very difficult job, especially now with all the additional scrutiny. Your efforts have made a difference in the life of Aisha and I, and most importantly in the life of a little boy-Niman. And although we do not know your names, you will always be remembered by us.

I personally extend my appreciation for your service,

Thank You,
