For any of you still waiting on NOA 2, and who feel it's taking longer than expected.

I wrote to my local congressional representative as someone on here suggested. I didn't expect any response whatsoever. I think my visa experience has jaded me lol. Anyway, they got back to me within a few hours of my email. They had me and my fiancé fill out forms to give them permission to enquire on our behalf. I already received an email from them this morning saying they have contacted the California processing center to request an immediate update on our case and said they would do everything they can to push our case through. I don't know what the outcome will be, but even my overpaid attorney wasn't this helpful. Nice to have someone on our side! I guess that's what these guys are paid to do!

Feeling hopeful!!

I got my NOA2 on Dec 29 and wasn't going to bother calling the NVC, because we are not in a hurry to schedule the interview. Normally, you are supposed to get a letter from the NVC stating that they have sent your case to the embassy. As of today, nothing has come in the mail, so I called the NVC a few hours ago. My case was sent to the embassy on Jan 19th and has been ready for interview since the 26th. So calling will certainly speed things up if you don't need to wait on a packet 3 before scheduling the interview. It depends on how your local embassy works, I think (but someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Hi everyone, I have been lurking in this thread but not posting :). My fiancé is from Peru.

lacolinab13, welcome to our chatty thread! thanks for the good, real life contribution!

and to Gc&dl, I think letters from the nvc are rare. I certainly didn't get one. you can call nvc and get your number. it might be possible, after waiting an appropriate interval, to call the embassy and schedule the appointment that way.. but they will probably want your nvc number first. and besides, once you have your nvc number you can pay the visa fee, get your police report, and in general move forward.

We didn't call and got the letter with the case number in the mail. By the time I tracked it online with that case number it had already reached my embassy! So I saved myself a lot of waiting around by not calling early. I was able to schedule my interview all within the next week :-)

WOW thanks for all the replies guys. Atleast Ive gotten an idea on both sides maybe i will call. Ive just gotten jaded about calling these things.

Sir Greenbaum. Question please. If, as in Aisha's situation, the K-1 visa holder does not speak English very well how is that addressed at POE. Such as we saw with JJGussiaas?

Have her find a person on the plane who speaks English as well as her native language. When she arrives she asks that person to come through immigration with her to help her understand what's being asked. She shouldn't have any problems someone to help as they understand the necessity.

There is a good possibility that someone at the major POE's can speak her language. Try calling the airport information hot line and inquire about such a service.

Check with the airlines she will be flying and see if they have interrupters that can help. Usually they do for children who are flying unaccompanied.

Last but least have a paper that is prepared for her to carry with her that has simple statements and information. Be sure she has your cell phone number and address on the paper in the event that someone needs to contact you in the event that she gets lost or other interruptions in her travel.

Also include on their about need for an interrupter because of her language and list the proper term for her language.

Put simple statements on the paper for asking about food. Restrooms. Security. Airline Gates. etc. This way she can point to a question and someone can help her even though neither can speak each others language. These can be in a form of pre-printed 'flash cards', easy to use. You could put the English question on the top and in her language the same questions so she knows which card she is showing.

You should advise her not to panic if she gets escorted to "the back" or to a room. It may happen if a translator is needed. She isn't being detained, just moved out of the queue so the translator can talk to them.

Preprint airport maps for her.

Teach her some English phrases like "I only speak _________. May I have a translator?"

Be sure to prepare all the documents for traveling before hand for her. http://dennyeyberg.wix.com/filipino-am-visa#!completing-the-us-customs-form-online/c1n5p

I'm sure this would not happen to your fiancé but it does open our eyes to something that none of have ever though about. I wouldn't show this to her just walk her through what she should do if she gets into a situation that she may not understand. I'll leave that up to you. But here is the item to read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Dzieka%C5%84ski_Taser_incident

Hope this information helps you prepare her for her journey.

Hi everyone, I have been lurking in this thread but not posting :). My fiancé is from Peru.

This was a good answer. We appreciate your participation. To that end can you please complete your profile that way we can better serve you when answering your question(s). To do so go to the upper right hand corner, select your name and under your name chose "my profile". Next under your picture you choose "Edit my Profile". Under profile settings scroll to the bottom of the page and you see two areas (Profile Information and Immigration Information) that accommodates vital additional information to help others in their reply to your question(s). Without it, the replier may just move on and not give you the answer because they have to "work" to get that needed information. The answer is sometimes predicated on that additional information. Thank you and good luck on your journey.

That is brilliant Green. I was worried about my fiance because she doesn't speak any English. I will write out some questions for her to take to the airport. Good idea about the map also, I almost got lost at the Miami airport last year so I know she would. Thank You!

So is it a must that we call the NVC for the assigned number? What happens if we don't call them? Will the consulate in sweden contact my fiance once they receive our case? Kind of confused on what to do next.

By calling NVC to get your case number you can shave off a few weeks on your processing times. Of course each Embassy is different so it is necessary for you to read up on the steps for processing which for Sweden can be found here http://cdn.ustraveldocs.com/se/se-iv-visaapplyinfo.asp#

When you call NVC you might get the answer that your case number is not available, please call back in 45 days. Just call back the next day and each day till you get your number. But don't start calling till 10 business days has elapsed after the text notification as it take that long before NVC receives your case from USCIS.

Also, you may want to visit your sub-forum here on VJ to ask questions that are more specific to your country. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/95-europe-eurasia-except-the-uk-and-russia/

Most here are processing from different Embassy and the process's are different from one to the other.

So I called and found out that the NVC received our case yesterday, and took down the case and IIN numbers from them. From what I've read in this thread, it seems okay to go ahead and have her fill out the DS-160 as well as schedule the interview. Does anyone know if there is something extra for the Vancouver consulate that must be done for scheduling the interview or filling out the DS-160? Do they actually need to receive the case?

Thanks for the help guys :) This would be a pretty daunting task without the help here... especially considering how much more quickly the petition was approved compared to what I expected.

Start with the P3 For Vancouver http://photos.state....uver/k_pkt3.pdf But, keep in mind that a forum like this one is for initial bonding with others who are along the same timeline as you for initial processing. The initial application is the same no matter where in the world you are. But, having said that, once you get your approval (NOA2 text message or email), you should move over to your country's sub-forum to get a better understanding of the process for the Embassy that you will be interviewing with, and to get direct answers from those who have completed the steps you are about to at the US Embassy Canada.

Those in this thread, are applying from various Embassies around the world and there are different process for each. So what works in Russian, Philippines or UAE may not work for those processing through Canada. VJ sub forum for all things dealing with the US Embassy in Canada and they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa

from their personal experience. Link: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/93-canada/

Get the Canadian K1 Embassy Letter (EL) at P3 For Vancouver http://photos.state....uver/k_pkt3.pdf as this is your bible needed to complete and receive your visa. The required documents are included and use the EL as a check list. Once you have completed or gathered the required documents you'll be ready for your interview. If it is not on the Embassy letter, it probably is not needed.

Last but not least, READ the pages on the US Embassy website for you country so that you are up to speed.

http://canada.usembassy.gov/

Two more places to check for information would be the VJ Wiki found here: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Special:AllPages

And a recent interview review http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/view-dos-cis-reviews.php?entry=18429

Good luck and God's speed.

So on the CEAC website I have been checking the status for the past couple of days since my fiance's interview. I know we are waiting for it to say, "Issued". So Wednesday it said, "Ready". Yesterday it said, "Administrative Processing". Now today it say, "Ready" again. Is that normal? Bad? Good? Seems weird to me.

That's normal. There are a few steps from "behind the curtain" that the Great Oz has to complete before your visa/passport is sent to you. Each Embassy is a little different but here is a close roadmap of what is happening. Yours may be a little different but it gives an idea what is going on.

The visa processing steps after visa interview are as follows:

The first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa

The first READY is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance

The second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork

The second READY is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery

Next it will be ISSUED which it is being released for delivery and has left the building with 2go.

Remember, no one can tell anyone when they will get there visa. There has been some who received it in two days and others more than three months. Normal delivery is around 2-3 weeks after the interview if the sun, moon and mars are lined up so don’t run out and buy any airline tickets till your visa is in your hands.
