the wedding plans do constitute significant proof of an ongoing, genuine relationship, but I've never heard of proof of plans required for the k-1 visa process. there is no reason that the legal and the ceremonial wedding have to be the same event, so you can plan the ceremonial party for a safe future date, and do the legal part as soon as you want (sooner the better atmo, get status adjusted and get her work papers so she can start helping to pay for that ceremony, or at least the dress!)

Your partially right. But you left out the common denominator and that Is a woman who is getting married talking to another woman (CO). They have to ask the question about wedding plans, it's a woman thing. So yes, if she has a woman CO she will be asked. Male CO..... never comes up.

You do not have to wait for the embassy to receive the file. My apology for when I told you otherwise. I have now learned different. All you need is the case # from the NVC.

Then you register online for DHL, and to pay visa--you can not go any further than that. Then you go pay the visa at the bank in Addis. Within 24 hours you will get notified that the visa is paid and you can schedule the interview.

We are the 25th. You can make it.

Perhaps you should go to the Ethiopian Thread and get updated on this, because this thread is only for superficial bonding.....ahhhhhh wait, there is no Ethiopian thread, this is it. I am sorry to tell you, but I am your mentor for Ethiopia :crying:

This is the Ethiopian Thread!

I've been thinking about how easy everyone has had it in the interviews from our group. And how I want for ours to hurry up and get here. Then tonight as I was preparing my chilli for our company chilli cookoff tomorrow ( :ot: ) I recalled a scene from one of my all time favorite movies. Watch below, and we are Sir Robin going to the interview--Sir Robin is the second guy who goes to get questioned...

Wow, what a story. It is the 21st century and there are still people who are stuck in the 19th century. "why is she paying", "can she afford to pay for all that". And if 'she' were a man would there be the same line of questioning?

Ahh, you came into the country in my home state of Texas. Never mind, that speaks volumes.

Congrats!!!!!! :thumbs::thumbs::star::star::thumbs::thumbs:

You are going to share pictures of the wedding with us? Of course. So then we can all be your witnesses for your AOS

Sir Greenbaum. Question please. If, as in Aisha's situation, the K-1 visa holder does not speak English very well how is that addressed at POE. Such as we saw with JJGussiaas?

In that case I think they will use one of the interpreters that they have working in the airport.

So is it a must that we call the NVC for the assigned number? What happens if we don't call them? Will the consulate in sweden contact my fiance once they receive our case? Kind of confused on what to do next.

I got my NOA2 on Dec 29 and wasn't going to bother calling the NVC, because we are not in a hurry to schedule the interview. Normally, you are supposed to get a letter from the NVC stating that they have sent your case to the embassy. As of today, nothing has come in the mail, so I called the NVC a few hours ago. My case was sent to the embassy on Jan 19th and has been ready for interview since the 26th. So calling will certainly speed things up if you don't need to wait on a packet 3 before scheduling the interview. It depends on how your local embassy works, I think (but someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Hi everyone, I have been lurking in this thread but not posting :). My fiancé is from Peru.

lacolinab13, welcome to our chatty thread! thanks for the good, real life contribution!

and to Gc&dl, I think letters from the nvc are rare. I certainly didn't get one. you can call nvc and get your number. it might be possible, after waiting an appropriate interval, to call the embassy and schedule the appointment that way.. but they will probably want your nvc number first. and besides, once you have your nvc number you can pay the visa fee, get your police report, and in general move forward.

what I meant to say was

you might be able to call the embassy directly after they have received your petition, but that is a doubtful strategy. it's also inefficient, as there are other things (visa fee, police report, vaccinations, etc) that you can move forward on while you wait for your petition to move through the machinery of the state dept

abridged version: call nvc

So I called and found out that the NVC received our case yesterday, and took down the case and IIN numbers from them. From what I've read in this thread, it seems okay to go ahead and have her fill out the DS-160 as well as schedule the interview. Does anyone know if there is something extra for the Vancouver consulate that must be done for scheduling the interview or filling out the DS-160? Do they actually need to receive the case?

Thanks for the help guys :) This would be a pretty daunting task without the help here... especially considering how much more quickly the petition was approved compared to what I expected.

We didn't call and got the letter with the case number in the mail. By the time I tracked it online with that case number it had already reached my embassy! So I saved myself a lot of waiting around by not calling early. I was able to schedule my interview all within the next week :-)

So on the CEAC website I have been checking the status for the past couple of days since my fiance's interview. I know we are waiting for it to say, "Issued". So Wednesday it said, "Ready". Yesterday it said, "Administrative Processing". Now today it say, "Ready" again. Is that normal? Bad? Good? Seems weird to me.
