A former supervisor once coined the term "Sempre Gumby", which is applicable to this situation.

Sempre = Always

Gumby = Flexible

Have your plan ready, and then execute when you get the date....

So is that a yes, that having dresses, wedding invitations etc bought before Intwrview is essential? Do they ask for this evidence?

My apology. I am certainly the wrong person to answer, because I plan and do everything in advance. Note the thumbnail photo. We have the dress, I've got the location pending final reservation, the invitation list is in place, etc. IF, big if, the interview goes not as planned, then we will regroup, and plan B.

I will have that evidence if asked. But so far it seems no one in this group has been asked.

We plan on having two weddings for two different families in months to come so that means I have to have a third one planned and paid for for the interview? Lol

We are going to live stream ours across the internet so her family can watch and participate.

Oh and how do people plan for a wedding when we

aren't sure of the actual date they will get visa to

come here?"

the wedding plans do constitute significant proof of an ongoing, genuine relationship, but I've never heard of proof of plans required for the k-1 visa process. there is no reason that the legal and the ceremonial wedding have to be the same event, so you can plan the ceremonial party for a safe future date, and do the legal part as soon as you want (sooner the better atmo, get status adjusted and get her work papers so she can start helping to pay for that ceremony, or at least the dress!)

way to go!!!! You could be at our interview.

The file will be there on Monday. You should submit the DS-160 now that you have the case number, and register to pay the Visa. If you want to go fast. If you rather take your time you could just wait :rofl:

Congrats!!!! :thumbs::thumbs::star::star::thumbs::thumbs:

We have place and rings and invitations (with no dates yet) ready to print. I was worried that if they ask for things like balloon or flower rental evidence, things that can only be bought just before a big wedding. The major stuff we already bought. We are so happy and stressed at the same time. I plan on flying their just to fly back with her which is a big chunk of

Change alone.

You do not have to wait for the embassy to receive the file. My apology for when I told you otherwise. I have now learned different. All you need is the case # from the NVC.

Then you register online for DHL, and to pay visa--you can not go any further than that. Then you go pay the visa at the bank in Addis. Within 24 hours you will get notified that the visa is paid and you can schedule the interview.

We are the 25th. You can make it.

Perhaps you should go to the Ethiopian Thread and get updated on this, because this thread is only for superficial bonding.....ahhhhhh wait, there is no Ethiopian thread, this is it. I am sorry to tell you, but I am your mentor for Ethiopia :crying:

Habesha14 is with me on the 25th. Here is a little incentive for you. If you make it for the 25th, and we do well with the interview (approval), I will buy us dinner---for all of us. How about it? :no:

The requirements of the K=1 visa is that you marry within 90 days upon arrival on American Soil. When you submit your AOS package you will include a copy of the marriage certificate (proof you had a wedding). You can do a repeat of your vows at a later date and have the big party. No harm with that.

GIRL TIP:

There's a wonderful fast-fashion site called ASOS. And it's perfect for you: in the garment details, it'll tell you what size and how tall the model of the dress is. Many of the models are 5'9"! Check it out :)

http://us.asos.com/ASOS-Maxi-Dress-With-Ladder-Inserts/1960my/?iid=6199359&cid=9979&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Black&totalstyles=445&gridsize=3&mporgp=L0FTT1MvQVNPUy1NYXhpLURyZXNzLVdpdGgtTGFkZGVyLUluc2VydHMvUHJvZC8.

Also, if you're worried about your trusting your taste (my fiance always is), you could also always buy two or three options, take them to her to pick out which one she likes best, and return the others when you get back to the states. BUT, you also risk her liking all of them and wanting to keep them all, too :oops::rofl:

Good luck on your shopping adventures!

:protest: Hey, A guy can't get any shut eye with all the chit chat you two are having. We're trying to get visa's approved around here. You keep it up and we'll reach 500 post by next Tuesday. :rofl: Next question. -_-

Hey all! I have a quick question for those who have been through the NVC stage....I just called and they said they received my case today and I should hear back from them within 42 days. Is this when people start calling everyday? :) I tried to read past posts but over 200 pages with most people in interview stage it is hard to find! Thanks for your advice.

Call tomorrow and chances are you will have a case number. But call later in the day to give them time. If not tomorrow then Monday.
