Hello everyone,

I've been trying to follow the process at Potomac - since my petition got shipped there directly from the Phoenix lockbox. Something is rather confusing about the way they do things, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on their process:

I've sent my I-130 in late January, they got it Jan 28th. I got the NOA1 shortly after as well as text/email to confirm it.

At the beginning of February, as I got the NOA1 I sent in my I-129F package. Got the receipt number for that one shortly after as well.

For up until March 12th I was not able to track the case online. On March 12 I was able to see a status of "received".

For over a month, I've been going through the various other receipt numbers to see where they were in processing, and things were not moving.

At the beginning of April they started moving and I see a lot of YSC receipt numbers are either approved, or sent to the state department. This is where things start to get weird.

They skip past my I-130 receipt number (low 6000s), and I figured oh, it must have met with the I129F along the way and they're processing it then (that's in the 12700s).

There were no updates between April 14th (when it was stuck at 10480), and yesterday April 26th. Searching the numbers yesterday I noticed 10481 was "skipped" and there were quite a few numbers past that with Approved messages. I got to 12600, that was approved, 12700 (and most all of the numbers I tried between 600 and 700) wasn't. Figured ok, maybe they haven't gotten there yet, fingers crossed they'll get to mine this coming week. Then for the hell of it, I put in 13000, and sure enough that one is approved. So that kind of blows my theory out of the water in that they're taking it in order of the last communication/receipt number on the case.

So question is, anyone else know what's going on with these "skipped" receipt numbers? What's causing some submissions from February being approved/rejected/etc (essentially moved on) but yet January or older ones being in "received" status still?

I noticed that too. My assumption is one of the following: 1) They are probably doing thorough search or making sure the documents are all complete (depending on who the dealing officer is) or 2) there is the difference between USC and green card holders in this case so maybe that makes a bit of difference for some cases. I heard that for USC beneficiaries, the process is a bit faster.

This is just my idea, I do not represent or know anything on how this whole system works with them.

Welcome to Potomac, there is no rhyme or reason in how they do things there. They sometimes approve much newer petitions while others are still waiting 5,6,7 months or longer. If you read this thread from the beginning you will understand. They have never done anything in any real "order" yet.

I recently received the following email from USCIS. Does anyone have any idea if this means that our I-130 has been approved?

Thanks!

There has been a recent processing action taken on your case.

Your Case Status: Acceptance

On April 22, 2016, we sent you a duplicate notice about a decision on your Form I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN, Receipt Number XXXXXXXXX, or describing how we will process the case if it is still pending. Your case is located at our Potomac Service Center location. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your duplicate notice by May 22, 2016, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

During the acceptance step USCIS reviews newly received applications and petitions to ensure that they are properly filed (i.e. signed by the applicant, appropriate fees, etc.) USCIS issues a receipt number for the application or petition, and sends a receipt notice to the applicant or petitioner. Applications and petitions that are not properly filed are rejected with an explanation of why the application is rejected and the corrective action needed. Rejected applications or petitions do not retain their filing date. The acceptance step is typically completed within 2 business days of when the application is received. With mail time it may take several weeks for you to get the receipt or rejection notice in the mail. If you do not receive your notice within 30 days of mailing your application, please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

This looks like they are sending your NOA1 in the mail again, which is strange. It doesn't look like an NOA2 (it doesn't say approved). Maybe you should post your question to everyone/start a new thread instead of asking in this thread. That way, more experienced people can give their opinion.

My Convoluted Story (see my profile for more details)
Jun 2009 - Met on Facebook
Mar 2010 - Visited Morocco for the first time, got engaged
Dec 30, 2011 - Wedding in Morocco (5th visit)
I-130/CR-1 (first time around)
31 Aug 2012 - Priority Date (Vermont, transferred to NBC)
31 Dec 2012 - NOA2
27Jul 2013 - Broke up/Separation (while waiting for case complete at NVC)
9 Jan 2014 - Filed for divorce in US (never completed)
4 Apr 2014 - USCIS NOIR
May 2015 - Reconciliation
Nov 2015 - Vacation together in Spain (7th in-person visit with each other)
I-130/IR-1 (second time around)
4 Feb 2016 - Priority Date
19 Apr 2016 - NOA2

17 May 2016 - NVC Case Number Assigned

31 May 2016 - Sent AOS/IV package to NVC

5 Jul 2016 - NVC Case Complete

10 Aug 2016 - Medical Exam

25 Aug 2016 - Interview - APPROVED

1 Sep 2016 - Husband picked up his visa

Husband POE'd @ IAD - 5 November

yes i sent it in, and got case update notification yesterday they have received it and will begin working on my case again. Kinda sucks when you include all the documentation and they request something they already have.
