Hi I'm new to the group. I received a RFE Feb 9, 2016 and sent my response on Feb 24, 2016. I never received a hard copy in the mail, text, etc. I found out about the RFE through a Tier 2 Officer. They faxed me a copy of the RFE on Feb 23th since it was 14 days since they issued the RFE. They was requesting a photocopy of my husband's birth certificate that we had already sent with the initital I-130. I mailed the RFE on Feb 24 and mine was delayed by the postal service because but it was delivered on March 4th. USCIS updated that they received the RFE on March 18th and said I should get a response within 60 days of the date they received my response. May 18th will be 60 days but I hope I hear something before then. :clock:

Why did they need a copy of your husband's birth certificate? The instructions say that they don't need benefuciary birth certificates. I'm confused! And slightly worried... We didn't send a copy of my birth certificate.

I don't know why they needed a copy of the birth certificate. I just sent them what they requested with no questions. You are right a birth certificate is not required to send with the I-130 but I sent it anyway and it must of got misplaced. There are petitions that get approved without the birth certificate so I wouldn't worry.

I put the RFE letter on top and a copy of the birth certificate behind it. I also sent a letter telling them I never received a hard copy in the mail and that USCIS faxed me a copy of the RFE and enclosed is what they requested. If you don't receive your hard copy in the mail and it has been 14 days since the RFE was issued call them and tell them to fax you a copy and they told me what the RFE was for over the phone. They said allow them up to 60 days to make a decision after they receive what they requested.

@Bosna: Glad you received the info as to what was missing. They're working on your case, so hopefully you will get your case approved soon. As for medical & interview: I believe the interview takes about 6-8 weeks after CC, judging by the timelines I've seen. I hope that's still accurate? And the medical, I don't know really, for us, we make our own appointments here (well, one doctor's office actually has open hours every week just for the medicals where you just have to show up). Maybe check with others who will deal with medical and interview in Bosnia to figure out details for your particular situation?

Send it however you like. Main thing is it gets there in a timely manner. Personally I would send it UPS. They picked up our petition from England on Friday and delivered it in Phoenix on Monday. I was very impressed.

You'll have to complete the NVC phase (a lot more steps and documentation), first, then NVC will schedule your spouse's interview, and your spouse will schedule their own medical a few weeks prior to that interview. For now, just wait for USCIS decision on your I-130 and read the NVC guides carefully so you'll know what to expect and what your next steps will be after USCIS approves the petition.
