I received a check-list for my husband's IR-1 application yesterday for a missing Japanese police certificate (even though he is supposed to take it directly to the interview). He called NVC and they said his case is actually complete and that he should take his certificate to the interview, even though the check-list says to mail it in and wait another 30 days. We're hoping the person on the phone is correct and that the letter is a mistake.

Anyway, if our case really is complete, can someone tell me about how long it takes for NVC to forward it to the embassy in Tokyo and how long it usually takes for Tokyo to schedule IR-1 interviews? We're hoping to have my husband in the US by Christmas.

Thanks so much!

My daughter (IR2) is in Australia we advised on submission of documents to NVC (Aug 7) that we had gotten a headstart and asked for the police certificate to be sent directly to the Embassy, as this is what happened in my visa application three years earlier. Aust embassy have also confirmed receiving it.

Received the same type of letter from NVC on August 17 - that police check was missing and it would not be further processed, but you could present at Embassy. I wrote back to them immediately and advised it was going directly to the Embassy and that their letter was contradictory. No response. Call them and was told by person on phone that yes, the letter was strange and contradictory - she would submit a request to supervisor. Rang again after a couple of weeks; told to hold my horses, it would take 42 days to get a response.

Wrote again on Aug 30. Sent confirmation of receipt from Embassy.

Call from them early September that they were waiting on the police check and then they could process the visa. Emailed to them, they called to advise that it had been received. Sept 10.

Have called since and been told that it was fully processed on September 10 and sent to the Embassy for available interview date. Still heard nothing. Called Embassy and they told us to contact NVC.

The embassy gave us an interview date with the CC letter (and we also had a checklist!) from NVC. So I would say it doesn't take them much time to schedule interviews at all. If your case really is complete, you may be lucky enough to have him there by Christmas. :)

ETA our checklist was not for the police certificate (we had mailed it to NVC), but rather for some financial information. But I still think it's quite possible you can get CC with a checklist.

Just an update:

Despite getting the letter that NVC needed additional documents before completing my husband's application, today we received the Case Complete letter! It said they have everything they need and will inform us once his interview has been scheduled. He may be here for Christmas after all! ^_^

(Note: CEAC status still says "At NVC")
