The $2B Aircraft Carrier the Navy Paid to Disappear

Oct. 25 (Bloomberg) –- The U.S. Navy has announced that it has turned over its decommissioned carrier, the USS Forrestal, for scrap. The Navy's first super-carrier launched in 1954 and was in service for an eventful 4 decades; John McCain served aboard the ship in the sixties before becoming a P.O.W. in Vietnam. Here's a look at the U.S.S. Forrestal by the numbers, including the unbeatable price the Navy paid to have it scrapped. (Source: Bloomberg)

Incidentally it was 1 cent. Who made money on this deal?

Navy got rid of a liability, presumably were not OK with selling it to Bangladesh to be scrapped on the cheap. Hopefully the buyer will not lose out.
