I see references in people's timelines about getting an email update on a change in status, etc. I've never gotten any advance warning of something happening. Stuff just shows up in the mailbox. How can I sign up for this service? Link?

It won't give updates after the file goes to the consulate.

And I'm sorry I don't know all the little details about CR1 so I'm not even sure this will work with NVC. But it's the only source for emailed updates I'm aware of.

As soon as you sign up, whatever the last updates are - they will be there.

You can get email update and check the status only from http://www.uscis.gov website from the initial application submittal to approval. After the approval, the case is sent to NVC. You can not get automatic status update at NVC, but you can get an update by calling/emailing NVC.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview
