This is crazy to me, you are married no matter where you got married! Everything does start at the ss place, so if ss took it then it legit, I had no problems at ss office, the dmv they tried ?, because she was looking for a seal or stamp on the marriage certificate then she said she couldn't take it and I asked her did she read it she said no and I told her that it was certified in Africa that if she wanted to purchase me a ticket I can go get it stamped and what kind of stamp did she want on it ??, ? she gave me that look ? and I said don't worry about it get the manager and he came and told to change my license! These front desk workers ??? get the person in charge

I did. Was kindly reminded that as stated on website and accordance to some BS she rambled they so not have to accept foreign marriage licenses. I can take it to the court its all about money.

That's sad and ridiculous!

Well in Colorado I can't get my name change on my drivers license or ID thru DMV as they don't recognize other states let alone foreign marriage license. So I can't even change my bank accounts its frustrating to say the least.

I have many friends in Colorado married went to SS with marriage certificate and DMV. You talked to an idiot.

Heck I changed not just my last name to my husbands but changed my middle name to the name he calls me. New SS card, New Drivers license, New passport. No issue.

Married is married keep trying until you get someone with some brains. or go to another SS office.

I spoke to my county clerk folks this morning about changing my last name to my husband's last name. I was told that we (both) have to apply for Informal Marriage License and we both have to be present.

Even though I explained to the lady that my husband is abroad and can't be here. She said that's the only way to do it in Texas.

I doubt this is the first time someone is having to deal with name change using a foreign marriage certificate.

Please help!

Why Texas?
