RFE from USCIS about Marriage certificate translator?

Hi,

I have my CR-1 petition filed then today I received a "Request for Evidence" from USCIS saying that the translation of our Marriage Certificate doesn't contain an acceptable certification of the translator!

I have attached a copy of it here too. I dont know what I should do exactly! Do I have to go to certain translator? Does the translated copy need to be stamped from the American Embassy in my home country? Or is it only a certificate from the translator that is required?

Any thoughts and suggestions on this would be highly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You can translate the documents yourself (or anyone can) and attach the simple Translation Certification, as follows:

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________
Date Typed Name
Address

Exactly like said above, it just needs to state that the translator is qualified to translate (knowing both English and the language of the document), and that the provided translation is accurate. If you took it to an authorised translator in Saudi they should provide a statement with their translation. This is an example from the place where my fiancé took his papers to in Makkah.

I didn't know about this certificate about the translator is qualified to translate. I just did the translation in an ordinary translation office and they just didn't include that certificate.

I just hope that USCIS doesn't make me wait again for the queue after I mail them what they need!

Hi again,

With reagrds to the same topic above, we noticed that the merriage certificate has the Hijri date only, and thats the case with most of documents in Saudi Arabia. Now, do I need to "add" the corresponding AD date to the translation copy even though it is not written in the original document or should I just leave as it is with the Hijri date only?

I thought it is not something hard to convert dates so I'd rather leave it without adding something that is not there. What anyone would suggest?

Just saw your new comment or would have replied sooner. You probably already had the translation done. What did you decide?

My finance's birth certificate also only has hijri date. But the translator replaced it with miladi date only in the English translation. He hasn't had his interview yet so I can't say that it's good or not to do it that way.

Another thing is the entry and exit stamps in my passport for Saudi are also in Arabic only and use Hijra dates, which may confuse the Consular Officers. Since it is a passport stamp I didn't have it translated I just wrote an explanation that this stamp is the entry stamp, the exit stamp for this and this date, though showing hijri dates.

Since the consular officers are working in Saudi Arabia they should be familiar with hijri dates. But later on when you might need your marriage certificate in the US I think it would be better to have the miladi date.
