My fiancé and I are currently waiting for our I-129F petition to be reviewed by USCIS. I'm scared we could get a RFE because we met on a dating site. So I was reading up on the IMBRA law doing some research and read it's a law to protect foreign woman right? The petitioner, my fiancé is a female US Citizen. I the beneficiary am male. Does that mean the IMBRA law wouldnt apply to us?

Nope

Scared of what? Did you disclose as solicited you met via a dating service?

The IMBRA law seems clear the intent is to primarily protect against abuse against women but its does not appear to solely distinguish as such. It is simply less commonplace that a woman would abuse a man in such a manner that the intent of the law was based.

The law says intent is to protect beneficiaries from unsavory petitioners and requires background checks and preventing immigration fraud from serial applicants. Sponsors with relationships spawned from dating sites are subject particularly however this does not discriminate to the prototypical gender of either the USC nor the beneficiary.

The VAWA law is more specifically geared toward women https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_Against_Women_Act

Hi there Dutch88,

This shouldn't worry you incase this happen as people who met online have been getting RFEs for more clarification on how the relationship was made, what you can do now in the meantime you can email the dating site or their customer service and request them to send you an email showing that their site is not offering marriage broker services or if you don get a reply just print out the term and conditions page.

However you shouldn't be worried about this at all cause your Male.

We attached a sheet with the petition explaining how we met. The website we met on is not an international marriage broker (okcupid.com). But using the search function on this forum has learned me that people have been getting RFE for mentioning Okcupid. I was hoping I wouldn't have to be afraid of getting an RFE since I'm not a woman.
