Hello,

This is my first time posting on this forum. I recently was referred here from my friend who also is living in the US with his Japanese wife.

I have a question regarding the process of the Spouse visa.

This website has a great guide and flow chart of what to do for the entire process. However, my question is in regards to whether or not my wife can do what needs to be done in Japan by herself while I return to the US to look for a job to prepare for her to move to America. Once we file the I-130, would it be a sound idea for me to return the US to resume my job hunting activities or should I remain in Japan to help her with the rest of the process because I have to or something later down the road such as the interview or other documents?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm looking to find a new job and I recently came back to Japan to marry my GF of 8 years and just want to make sure everything is OK before I decide to leave my job here and return to the US to job hunt this year instead of waiting till next March.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again and I hope everyone has a good day.

hi

she doesn't need you there, you need to get a job, or at least have someone who can be your joint sponsor

if you haven't filed the petition yet, the process can take over a year. so return asap, find a job

you can send the i130 from Japan to the US to start the process, and she will have her interview at the Consulate

I'm not sure if Japan has direct consular filing, but the above mentioned is what is normally done
