Hi Everyone, I am a new member and I have fwew questions and hopefully I am in a right topic field.

I filed for my father's case I am a US citizen and he is in Pakistan. Long story short his i-130 got approved everything went fine with NVC as well and he had is interview yesterday in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was told by the immigration officer in US consulate in Islamabad that his case is approved but he needs i864-A from my self and my wife.

I am his petitioner and sponsor and i originally filed i864 and my income is little over $2000.00 of 125% of poverty line with my current dependents and including my father (intending immigrant)

My wife does not work since she is a house wife but we do file our taxes as married filing jointly.

Now the officer gave all original documents back to my dad on interviwe and kept his passport and asked him to tell me that I need to send i-864a signed between my self as sponsor and and my wife as a house hold member so he can see how much my wife makes.

My questions is I read pretty much every where and i864-a is only needed when sponsor does not have enough income and income of house hold member is being used as a joint sponsor.

Now when i fill out i-864A and where it asks for my wife's income since she does not work I am going to say $0.00 income but where it says to mention your last 3 years income on your tax return should I write the income that we filed on our 1040 tax returns although that income was made by me as well not her.

PLEASE ADVISE AND LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS RAN INTO SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE OR WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS... ALL YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks for your reply... But why would I need a joint sponsor since my personal income already qualifies and even the white slip that immigration officer gave to my dad tilt had a check mark that they need i864A between my self and my wife.

The reason they are asking for the i864a is because you guys filed taxes together. It does not matter if she has any income or not. Legally she has every right to use your income. So, 864a is kind of letting the embassy know that your wife agrees with you sponsoring your father. I am in the same situation but i recently got married and I still sent a i864a even though me and my wife never filed for taxes together.
