Hi everyone, I just read a good tutorial from an admin of this site I think.

If your document states NO CRIMINAL RECORD and NO CASE PENDING means you're in the NBI's database for a possible past offense or it's common for someone else who has a similar name that can be mixed with your NBI report.

Typically if the NBI report says either of those two phrases, you need to return to the NBI and request a letter of explanation as to WHAT is in the database for your record. If you can't get a letter then you will need an explanation (verbal will do) so you can make any corrective action prior to the interview.

Mine says no case pending. My interview date is next Nov 3rd. Is it safe to assume that I can just verbally explain this to the CO? Thank you in advance.

You can explain it but it won't change the requirement. Expect delays while the letter is requested, and then the embassy processes.

POLICE REPORT (NBI Clearance). Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used, including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record” or "No pending case”. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year after its issuance date. NBI’s website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.

Thanks Hank for the answer. I checked my NBI clearance earlier ans it says no derogatory record.. what a relief! I was 100% sure it was no criminal record since i received a hit when getting the clearance and was asked to comeback 3-5 biz days after. Thanks again.

dhl or fedex or some international postage thingie.

usually, you'd send this into your petitioner, who in turns bundles all up and sends all of the docs to the National Visa Center.

You go here State Department - Look here by country for all Police Records Requirements for USA Visa application.http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html and find your country that you resided in for more than 6 months at a time from age 16. The steps and needed documents are there.

Yes, and by Police Certificate they mean the NBI

Is it pretty common for someone to get a "hit" on an NBI even when there has never been a charge against them and their full name is not that common?

Many times a "hit" is because a name is fairly common, not the other way around.    If the first and last name are fairly common and someone with a name like that did something to have a record .. then you could get a hit, and they will have to verify the name.

Ok thanks. They told her to come back on the 19th for it. Her first first name is common but not her last name. She definitely hasn't been in any trouble.

Apparently it was common enough .. ;)   Not a big deal no matter.   Wait a week and all is good.
