My Spouse (now) came to this country on a K1 Visa. She arrived here on Feb 12th...We got married on Feb 16th...She is a medical graduate. I was thinking of applying for an EAD card here. Is it worth spending $180 for it...?? or should i just apply for the Greencard...and take my chances?? Thank you for your responses and advice.

I don;t knwo if I would apply for EAD again, lately the greencards are getting send so quickly...my EAD would never even touched...I really think they should be so fair and give us the money back if we recive the greencard before the EAD card...oh well life is just not fair sometimes...but if you want to be safe apply for it...

Good luck!

Yes you could be lucky and get approval very fast or you could wait 3 - 5 months for an interview and be told you can not be approved today because your FBI namecheck is not back.... we have people here who have been waiting over a year for FBI namecheck... yes you could file for EAD after the interview if you are not approved but you will have to wait another 90 days+ to get it...

Apply at the same time as AOS and if it turns out you dont need it then you are one of the lucky ones..

Hi Bharat,

Good luck on your immigration journey. If you are not in a real hurry or not in an emergency situation, the EAD and the Advanced Parole is a waste of money, as in most cases it takes about three months for those to get approved, which is about the same time (three months) that it takes in most cases for the Green Card to be approved and received. Therefore, some people end up getting an EAD and an AP after or shortly before they get their Green Card, which makes the EAD and AP useless. I was advised of that beforehand, hence I never applied for it. Lol..the funny thing is that the money that I saved in not applying for an EAD and Advanced Parole went to paying the immigration lawyer's bill instead (and yes, it was worth the money). I got my AOS approved and got my Green Card rather quickly too!

But in case you want to apply for and EAD or an AP beforehand, cost-wise, for each of those documents is about $180 USD (total cost of about $360 for both).

Hope this helps.

With hindsight its easy to say this. However you equally could have spent 2 years in namecheck in which case the EAD would have been a godsend.

Get the EAD.

Yes, to be on the safe side, get the EAD. You don't want to be left hanging, not being able to work for a while, if for some reason you get stuck in the name check hole like some of us. There's no guarantee that you'll get your GC quickly. Anything can happen, given that USCIS is unpredictable.
