Yup. You don't want to be caught without papers between the border and the border checkpoints.....it's the USSR at the height of the movies about how bad the USSR was..

Or even WITH papers, or as a USC, at the inland checkpoint south of Alpine.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I agree with your point. Nerds maybe

However I have known some idiots that re PHd's

Depends on what you consider to be an idiot. Some folks might not be able to boil an egg yet have a solid understanding of advanced nuclear physics. The great egg boilers of the world may shake their collective heads at this persons pathetic attempt to boil an egg. To me, nuclear physics is a little more important than egg boiling. In fact, i regularly have my eggs boiled by people making $10 an hour. I also pay people to mow my lawn and improve my home.

Idiot is a strong word I agree. If you judge a fish, by how well it climbs a tree, it will think it is dumb it's whole life

INMHO intelligence is very selective. I had a former Maintenance man, in my plant, who could fix anything, fabricate anything, program a PLC and a whole host of other talents. High School education and clung to some very weird cult like beliefs. He did not understand such things as medicine or business etc.

If I had a choice between him and a nuclear PHD , in many situations I would choose him. In others I may choose the PHD.

Much like my typing and writing skills. I have passed English 101 and 102 but it kicked my butt. My brain just does not have the attention to detail skills. I can do it if I really take my time, I just don’t see the big deal on a forum, .. The same quarter I finished in the top of my class in Genetics 411 I made a C- in English 101. Others that made an A in English almost failed Biology 101.

I think what he meant was Stars Wars guys are dorks

Some get their self esteem from attacking others. Like me being attacked today with, "English only outside the regional forums". Some people may take offense, but I enjoy a good joke and realize that attacking some one in cyberspace or having some minimal position of authority may be the only self esteem some enjoy in their life. Others get it from calling Star Wars people idiots. We all do it, myself included. You tend to think you are better than fat people..

Today on FB I had someone respond to a post and use There instead of their. 2 people chimed in and had to be the grammar Nazi’s. What they did not know, was the guy is a Cambodian who speaks 3 languages and escaped the Khamer Rouge., he could buy and sell both of them and his family came here with nothing.

A little long winded for me, but I think we probably both agree, as a bottom line that intelligence is very subjective.

Are USC's required to carry ID with them in the US?

If you're driving, you need to have your driver's license.

If you're stopped at an internal CBP checkpoint, it's usually helpful to have government ID.

Otherwise, no.
