My Ghanaian passport expires in about 6 months or so and I am thinking about having it renewed at the Ghana embassy in DC. Has anyone done this before, and if you have can you please tell me how it went? My most important question is how long it took you to get your new passport back? And if you got your old passport back with the new one? I have been reading some horror stories about the Ghana embassy in the US.

Thanks

I too did get scared from reading those posts online about the ghana embsassy in DC. But when i submitted my application, I had my new passport after exactly a week.

I paid an additional $50 for the expedited service and I advise you use that. And yes your old passport will get returned to you as well except they will put a "cancel" stamp in it.

Thanks degbele!! How long ago did you have your passport renewed? Also was your passport completely expired, if not how many months did you have on it before it expires? My passport expires in about 6 month and I am wondering if they will accept it.

I called the embassy today and they told me it will take about 6 weeks to renew the passport but will 3 weeks if I pay to expedite it.

Thanks

my thoughts for you is to prepare of shitty customer service if you have to reach them through phone which you will very lucky to get through. And have the patience of a "helpless Ghanaian customer in Ghana". In short. LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS..But everything should be should easy if you don't have to call them for any reach.

Don't forget a prepaid self-addressed envelope.

Mine was completely expired before renewing. But i don't think you should have any issues even if you still have 6 months left, you can them to verify. And my password was renewed for 10 years.
