I had my fingerprints taken for biometrics - no problem. But I've just received a new appointment, stating that:

"The FBI was unable to process your fingerprint card. ... it will be necessary to have your fingerprints re-taken. This will be completed at no additional expense to you."

#######? There was nothing wrong when my prints were taken, but the FBI's computer doesn't like them, so I have to fork out more money to get to Hartford CT again, to have another fingerprint card taken.

And with every likelihood that the FBI won't be able to process the new card either.

Has anybody else had this happen to them? I'd really like to hear about other people's experiences with this.

Yes there have been reports of this here before.

In one instance I read of a member going 3 times and for some reason having to submit another medical exam before her greencard was issued. The medical was requested after the third request for prints and her fiance visa medical was still well under one year old.

These people did it 7 times

We're catching up! The FBI's supercomputers couldn't read the second take of my fingerprints, so I have to go back a third time.

Obviously, this is all my fault. But scanning my (same) fingerprints for a third time will of course solve the problem.

We might as well all get used to this kind of thing. The REAL ID act of 2005 passed by congress requires all states to adhere to national standards in issuing driver's licenses by the year 2008 (now extended to 2009) and this includes some form of biometric identification. The agency tasked with determining what form of biometric identification that will be is none other than our dear friends in the Department of Homeland Security. So if you think it is only greencard applicants who will be required to report to the government for periodic fingerprinting, think again. Soon it will be all of us.

I had to get refingerprinted as they lost my fingerprints in the computer system :( The guy was very rude, insisted initially that I had not shown up previously....I soon set him straight!!! I am STILL trying to get some answers as to what happened to my fingerprints but am getting nowhere. Good luck !!

Wow, that all really sucks.

Now, the problem with the fingerprints, I know that some people are hard to fingerprint but would part of the problem be the staff at the ASC? The guy who did my prints was very meticulous. After each print he looked on the screen for the "score" (how good a print it was). If it was under a certain percentage, he did it again. And again. And again... until he was satisfied it was a good print. He took his time with each finger and each grouping.

When my biometrics was taken, the officer did tell me that I might have the fingerprints done again because my fingerprints are hard to detect, have sweaty fingers.....but didn't receive anything after the biometrics and I passed the interview

...I hope your biometrics would turn out fine......

If memory serves me, the gal I spoke of in this post was suspected of having an actual medical condition that results in the fingerprints being virtually indistinguishable. Thus a medical exam was needed to determine if she indeed had the condition.

I don't believe this nonsense has anything to do with the real ID act. It has more to do with the directives of DHS to collect identification on all immigrants to this nation, eventually building a storehouse where the whereabouts of those individuals can be easily traced.

My husband too was told his prints might not be readable because he had 'warm hands'. While we didn't have to make extra trips, the agent did have to make extra attempts to get clear readings on him.

I hope this gets sorted for you soon.

My husband's fingerprints were rejected the first time. He had them done a second time, but we never really found out if they were rejected. At our interview the man insisted that my husband had only done them once therefor he had to do them again. The people at the biometrics office wouldn't do them because apparently after the second time they have to do a background check so we got police reports from the two towns we had lived in and send those in. We were told that after they are rejected twice then you have to get local police reports, which was easy and done for a small fee and ready the same day.

To be honest I don't really know what happened- whether they were satisfied with the second fingerprints or if they really needed and accepted his police reports.

Good luck!
