Hello!

We just got the electronic notification that our peition has been approved! But now I'm confused about the next steps are! I know that we have to wait to get our paper copy of the NOA2, and in a few weeks to start calling the NVC for a case number, then once we get that we have to wait till they send our case in the U.S. Consulate in Montreal... but then after that I'm a little lost (for the record I've looked at the K-1 visa flowchart but I'm still confused).

What paperwork do I need to fill out?

What is packet 3?

What is packet 4?

Do I have to schedule my interview or will the Montreal consulate do that for me?

How far in advance should I book my medical?

Thank you in advance for your help!

After the NVC sends the case to Montreal, give it a few days. They will log the case and ONLY once it's logged will they respond to you. That means that the case can be marked as READY but you will NOT get a response from them.

Montreal does EVERYTHING through online inquiry, nothing is completed via snail mail, and there is no way to contact them via phone. If you have any inquires you can ask them here: http://canada.usembassy.gov/contact/public-inquiry-form.html

Personally from my last inquiry, they can respond back immediately or up to a couple of days. My last one was sent at night, they responded at 8:58AM EST the next morning.

BACK TO THE PROCESS:

Once they log your case, they SHOULD send out a paper copy of Packet 3. You do NOT have to wait for this copy. This is a link to Packet 3 and it has instructions on how to do it: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf

Once you have confirmed that they have logged everything (you can do this via the inquiry page I linked), you can follow the packet 3 instructions and email them what you want. You email everything they ask for, to that address, and they should respond back with packet 4 anytime within 10 minutes to a couple of days. Ours took 7 hours to receive an email back after emailing them packet 3.

You do NOT have to have all of the things they asked for AT THE TIME you send packet 3. As long as you have everything on the checklist by your interview, you're fine. But you CAN send packet 3 with everything checked even if you do not have all of the items. They do not check dates or time stamps or anything.

They SHOULD send you a hard copy packet 3, but you do not have to wait for the hard copy. We received our hard copy snail mail packet 3 a week after we had scheduled our appointment and completed packet 4.

After you send packet 3 AND you know it's been logged, you'll recieve an email back and that email itself IS packet 4.

Packet 4 looks like this, but the actual packet 4 will be the email they send you, the pdf file is for reference only, but it has about the same info that the email has.. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet4-MTL.pdf

Once you have packet 4, just follow the instructions and schedule your interview and THEN your medical. Most of the medical places will ask for your case number and confirm that you do have an interview appointment BEFORE they will schedule you. So you have to schedule the interview first.

As for the time frame to schedule medical. Some people do it within four days (risky) but it's safe to have a week and a half between medical and interview. My fiances medical was on Tuesday, August 18th, and he received his medical package for the interview on the 28th or August, that next Friday. So it took them about a week and a couple of days complete and send out his medical package.

A helpful note, is that right now Montreal has a bad back log and currently doesn't have any appointments until December and those are being taken up fast, if not already gone. Those appointments are getting filled up VERY fast because there were VERY few open dates in October and NONE in November. So there are people that have been waiting since September to get an appointment, you'll be fighting against those for the available slots, and at the moment it's literally who ever grabs a slot first, good luck to everyone.

Best of luck, and again, you can either wait for the paper copy of everything, or you can go ahead and do packet 3 once you know it's logged. Try to be patient, sometimes, Montreal moves incredibly slow.

Note: Only reason I didn't list what you need to fill out is because the intstructions for everything are in packet 3 and packet 4 pdfs. What you need is all there. Again, here are the links.
