Hi! What I did, I brought all my documents with me, that includes extra copies of my birth certificate and stuff. At the port of entry, (Atlanta, GA). Everyone was very nice, they took my fingerprints then i had to wait for my turn with the immigration officer. It was very quick. I handed her my documents (don't ever open that sealed envelop ever!) ,she looked at it for a minute and then asked my name and told me "Welcome to the US! You have until March 19 to get married. You don't have to, if you don't want to." Then that was it. Was quick and easy for me.

As for getting the SSN. I went to the office two days after I got here. They told me they didn't have my records yet, so I came back after two weeks. I was able to apply for ssn using my married name. I showed my passport and marriage certificate (check their website for the requirements too). I got my SSN card two weeks after. :)

Keep reading too! Good luck! :)

Yes, the sealed envelop when you get your visa. :)

I understand it could be overwhelming. But you'll be fine!

Let's see. When I first got here, a couple days after I went to SS office, but they said they didn't have my record yet. They told me to come back two weeks after. We got marriage licenses, we got married 9 days after I got here. We went to get SSN. I used my married name. I brought my passport and marriage certificate. (Check their website for more info/requirements). After you get married, gather all the requirements for AOS. When you apply for AOS, you can apply for EAD/AP at the same time. You can usually get the EAD/AP within 90 days. :)

Just relax. You'll be fine! :)

The only difference for Chinook is that she applied for her Social Security number in her maiden name before we got married (about a week or so after she arrived in the U.S.). After we got married, Chinook took our marriage certificate to the Social Security office and filed for a name change to her married name. No problems.

After that, she filed to adjust her status and, at the same time, filed for her work permit (EAD) and her advance parole (AP).

That's awesome! :)

I just really didn't want to go back again (that's another driving and I didn't want to bother someone to drive for me the second time, the first time my husband went with me), oh well, still can't drive :/ lol.

About two weeks, yea, it seems like it. Yes, you can get married even if you don't have an SSN yet. Yes, you can get marriage license even without an SSN. If you get an SSN before getting married, you will need to use your maiden name. After getting married, you will have to go back and have a name change to your married name. OR, you can get married and then get an SSN and use your married name right away. So, will save you some trip to the SS office. ;)
