I've read that you need to call your local post office and have your spouse's name added to what they have on file for your house address otherwise they may return your spouse's mail. Is this true?

It would depend on the carrier, some just ensure they are putting in the correct mail for that address some go as far as making sure the addressee is correct. Just go to the post office and add them.

Ive never heard of that. My carrier stopped by and asked onetime we received a package for someone else if regular just so he could note it. Anytime I moved I never told anyone I just...moved and said what my address was. I live w/ a roommate now and pretty sure he didn't 'add me' to anything.

We have one of those communal mailboxes vs individual at each home. I think they put the names just so they can check for the outliers. When they see mail coming every wk I presume they figure it out. We still get tons of old mail from previous tenants at my roommates house still.

heo luoi, priority wise I'm just concerned about the post office delivering my wife's SS Card and Green Card and not returning them back just because they don't recognize the name going to my house address.

Back when I arrived 8 yrs ago, the Post Office did have a small form where you could register the occupants of the home so that mail to those recipients was not turned away. I filled it out for myself- in both married and maiden last names so that any mail forwarded to me with my previous name didn't go missing.

You may want to drop by your local PO and see what they say about that
