Hello again, it's been a long time since i written!

I finally came to the US and now that i want to start working, they're telling me that i have to wait 30 days until i get my social security number, without that i know that i can't make anything, but there any way to get it on a printed document and start with the driver's license or work?

Otherwise, i've paid the immigration fee before moving here and i don't see the tracking number, they told me that has to start with 3 letters followed by 10 numbers, but i don't see anything!

Thanks to all of you!

You came in on CR1 visa / you are elible to apply immediately for SS number / we got ours in only 10 days / lady at SS office said we could not get one and to bring the marriage licence in / we did and the man who helped us then said "Don't need that " you have IR 1 marked on visa / so go back / obviously someone at SS office did not know their job. Did you mark "Yes on the DS 260 saying "do you want immigration to apply for the SS number?"

Also have found out on the steps for CR 1 visa that i could have applied for his while he was still in his country

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/immediate-relative.html

shows the steps for the complete process even that you can apply for SS card

You can get hired with an employer without the SSN is what I was getting at.....using your passport.

As far as getting SSN is takes between two and three weeks to show in the system then about another two weeks to get it in the mail after applying for it, so about a month maybe a tad more.

*Edited---- I should clarify, employers must accept the I-551 stamp in your passport as valid proof of employment document, no need to have your SS card in hand to work. Employers must fill out an I-9 for every employee....I have linked the acceptable I551 stamp for the I-9.

It's funny because the I-551 stamp is a"class a" document that both establishes identity and eligible for employment, where if you use a SS card you still need to show another id since it's a "class c" document...and doesn't count as identification only proof of work authorization.
