Hey guys so everything was running smoothly until my joint sponsor bailed and said she was no longer willing to help us. I dont know what to do now. She was kind of our only option. Right now I am living in Costa Rica with my husband so I cant report my income. We have a friend who said he would do it. His income is 32k a year but he has two kids as dependants. Would this work? I feel so hopeless I could scream. I just wish this could be all over with.

Depends on what kind of job and how your employment looks. A few pay stubs would be good to be able to present. You have filed taxes in the US even though you lived in Costa Rica right?

G'day there mate, the USCIS has poverty guidelines: the minimum required to support dependant upon how many are in family

Following link is straight from USCIS website, use this as a guide for your situation

Hope all goes well for you, sorry your sponsor reneged :(

Your friend makes 32k a year and there's only 3 people in the household including him?

If so, then it looks like he makes enough to sponsor your husband. For a household of 4, you need an income of $30,312 and he's just a bit over it.

teeak is correct. Don't worry about the margin. My case was also like yours. Our joint sponsor barely crossed the poverty guideline limits. Still NVC and embassy did not asked me anything about it and approved my visa. Take your friends joint sponsor and organize everything nicely. I hope everything will go smoothly.

Really???? But wouldnt it look bad if he only makes a few thousand dollars over the limit?

Nope, the amount they give is the minimum. As long as he makes at least the minimum amount required, it's fine.
