I just thought I'd share my experience of the medical exam when you have an existing medical condition. I suffer from SVT which means my heart cant regulate its beats so I often get an extremely fast heart rate also known as palpitations.

My medical and my daughters (k2) was at 10.15 am at the George street medical centre, we were asked to come in an hour earlier as they claimed to have lost my email I had sent them with all our details, so upon arrival I handed over our passports, vaccination evidence and a sheet containing the requested information. The ladies at reception were very friendly and welcoming.

At 10.15 on the dot Dr Waks came out and introduced himself and guided us into his room. My daughter was seen first, he went through her immunisation record and asked the usual stuff such as hospitalisations, allergies ect . He totally put my daughter at ease and even had her laughing (she's 8) then did a quick physical and that was it.

Mine went pretty much the same, I had a document from my GP stating that my condition is controlled by medication and at this point nothing further needs doing, I wasn't asked for this but showed him as I wasn't sure if he needed a copy of it, but he didn't,i would still suggest if you suffer from any on going medical condition that you get a letter from your own GP. He then asked about what medicines I was on, how much I take and how often, this was all noted down.I was asked about having the flu injection but as both myself and my daughter have had severe reactions to it we were exempt from having it done, i was told this doesn't effect the issuance of the visa. After a quick physical it was all done. Some people stated that the Dr takes a quick peek in your underpants but that didn't happen at all so maybe it might just be for the men.

Next you are shown to a waiting area to get your bloods (my daughter was not required to get her bloods or an xray taken) you then pay $30.00 to the lady either cash or card.

Lastly off to the xray, which was about a 10 minute walk so wear comfortable shoes (I wore heels so my feet hurt a lil) the xray was really quick considering how busy the waiting room was, in and out in around 15 - 20 minutes, you pay $80.00 there and they hand you over a CD with your xray on it to be used once you reach the US. So back you walk to the medical centre, hand over your paper work, pay your fee and ta-dah all done.

All in all it was a pleasant experience and the fact I have a heart problem wasn't an issue at all. :)

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You won't need the CD. USCIS and CBP does not know how to, or have the equipment to look at x-rays and they won't ask for it.

Went for medical today, had MMR shot, blood test done for Varicella (Chicken Pox) to see if I need, as I may have immunity since I was exposed to it numerous times as a child without contracting (Varicella shot cost AUD$85)

The doctor I saw at Anzac Square Medical, Brisbane, James Yates, is an absolute hoot. Welcoming smile and jokes and funny anecdotes right throughout the visit.

Have to wait for the bloods and X-ray results to come in, then the medical centre will call me and I will travel back down to Brisbane to get them....

They can post, if you provide them with appropriate posting envelope, BUT if the envelope wasn't to arrive you have to undergo the whole medical again, so another $485.

If I show positive to Varicella antibodies, then no need for shot and my vaccination record will be updated on the spot.

So..... another turn of the wheel closer to moving to be with my Love yay!!!... and the waiting continues.....

Is good to see so many people progressing in their journey to being with their partners.... stick with it, continue to use this site as a great guide, please update accurately and regularly as things happen on your timeline, that way we all benefit and can get a reasonable guide to when our next step is going to happen 8-)

If it turns out you're not immune to Varicella be super happy that it's a requirement! Chickenpox as an adult is the worst, trust me! I thought that after being exposed to it as a child and having some spots on my back that I was done with it. In 2013 my husband (bf at the time) got shingles and I cared for him. Soon after I got chickenpox and it was horrible. People tell you it itches but they forget to tell you about the incredible nerve pain. My face and neck was so painful I couldn't sleep for two days. After that I just took Benadryl at bedtime and passed out.

Ouch, sorry to hear...

I'm expecting to show as immune cos when I was a little kid my mum exposed me many times to friends with Chicken pox and I didn't get it. Doc said that it is highly contagious, as per your experience :crying: and that if I didn't catch there is a pretty good chance that I am immune

Yes it was definitely not a nice experience. Sounds like you're immune which is good :)
