Hi. I am in the process of preparing financial documents for my son who is over 21. He will be coming from South Africa.

On the Document Cover Sheet, under 3: Supporting Documents is listed "Petitioner Documents" - what is this?

Will NVC tell me when to pay IV costs?

Can I submit normal State and Federal tax returns, together with W2's, or do I have to obtain IRS Tax Transcript as well for 2014?

My biggest concern about paperwork is supplying my son with original documents. It took 4 attempts over 9 months and many $$$ to get an unabridged birth certificate out of Zimbabwe. Can I send notarised documents to him for interview purposes instead of the originals? If these documents get lost I will have a major problem.

Thank you!

Also under 3: Photographs. I remember sending in 2 photos with my paperwork, but am not sure how many and what info they want with/on the photographs. My instructions in 2007 were very specific and can find no instructions for my son's photographs. Must they be color photos?

1) Petitioner documents is only needed for cases where the petitioner is bringing their parents or siblings.

2) You only need federal tax returns + W2s. Instead of submitting this, you can just submit IRS tax transcripts.

I have been unable to pay IV costs online, so assume I will be instructed to pay - is this assumption correct?

I would appreciate any feedback regarding originals - I really do not wish to mail/courier original paperwork to South Africa for my son's interview. Mail in and out of South Africa is very unreliable and it may not be possible to replace the documents if they get lost. Would notarised documents be acceptable in place of originals?

I will send in colour photographs, but again assume 2 are required - nothing is specified. Is there any procedure for the photographs, e.g. name etc on back of photo?

Yep, once they review your choice of agent form, they'll invoice the IV fee and you will be able to pay it.

In lieu of originals, I'm pretty sure they accept certified copies as well. But, I'd check your embassy. http://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Supplemental/JHN%20-%20Johannesburg.pdf

Yep, 2 color photos (2 x 2) http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html
