A friend of mine since 2nd grade just sent me an e-mail. She moved from NY to NC back in October and since then we lost touch. Her job pulled her away from me, my job pulled me away from her, the distance pulled us away even more... and now I feel like a terrible friend for having lost touch with her. She just sent me an e-mail saying she swallowed a whole bottle of tylenol, she's dizzy, and her legs are numb. I called NY poison control, they gave me the contact info for NC poison control. I have her NC address, but I don't have her phone #. She had given me her cell # and the contract expired in February, I tried calling it anyway and got a voicemail but it's a NY area code, not NC, so it wouldn't help poison control. I gave them her address but they didn't recognize the town, they said they could search by the zip. They said they'd call me back but they don't know when. They said a whole bottle of tylenol could cause liver damage severe enough to require a transplant or, worse case scenario, she could even die of liver failure!

My friend hasn't e-mailed me back or responded to my voicemail or gone on an instant messanger. I feel like a helpless sitting duck right now. I feel like there has to be something else I could do. If she were still in NY or in a closer state I'd just go on over there and break the freaking door down. I feel like there's someone else I need to call, but there's noone else TO call, poison control is already on it. I hate feeling like there's nothing I can do.

Do you know any of her family, also police maybe can ref back thr the messenger company and get the information needed

Consider calling emergency Services in her city right away, and have an ambulance dispatched immediately.

None of her family is still up here that I know of, they all moved in their own seperate ways. I could try getting hotmail to trace her IP but it would just go back to the same address that poison control already has.

I gave NC poison control her full address, street address town zip. They told me they'd find her and handle it from there. Does poison control handle dispatching ambulences? I wouldn't want to call 911 and flip them out when poison control is already doing everything that's necessary.

When I told that to poison control she had me repeat it 3 times, then asked me to spell it. She said she hoped I'd spell it differently cuz she'd never heard of it before. I said well can you search by zip, she said no. Then she hesitated and said "wait, I think I can, yes, I can search by zip". She rushed off the phone saying they'd take care of it and call me back. That was it. So that means poison control should've contacted the local authorities immediately and sent out an ambulence, right?

If unsure as to the protocol of Poison Control, phone them and ask for confirmation that they dispatch ambulances. Not only for your friend's benefit but for your own peace of mind.

First of all, 911 will get Emergency Services in your city. No help there.

If you have a physical address for your friend, look up Emergency Services in that city.

This will always get a faster response than poison control. You indicated earlier that poison control did not recognize the address. That is not a good sign. Poison control capability depends on the city.

911 is nationwide. Call that NOW....and get your friend some help!

This is what i found, the police will have to go there anyway i believe and they would dispatch an ambulance.
