Medical Questionnaire

Hello there,

Just looking through my medical questionnaire, and I have some rhetorical questions...

If you puffed on a joint in college once or twice, should you say "yes" to drugs and tobacco and explain thats all it was a long time ago at a party?

If you got too drunk at a party once and ended up taken to hospital as a precaution, should you say "yes, I went to hospital and yes I have abused alcohol"

I know you have to be 100% honest, but man, I feel pretty bad having this questionnaire and thinking its going to look a lot worse for things that happened 5 years ago when I was a bit more foolish and made the same "rookie" mistakes a lot of us make in life.

Confused, :help:

I have no idea what the answer to your question is but I had no idea there was a questionnaire for the medical too! When do we receive that? And how long is it, how many questions etc.? I'm very curious, although I guess I could just look it up.

It's in packet 3 which you get from the embassy after the NVC forwards on your case.

I mean, it asks if you have "abused" drugs...I personally wouldnt say two puffs on a spliff 5 years ago really counts as abuse! Likewise, I have smoked 2 cigarettes and 2 cigars in my life, but I have to say "yes" to tobacco and explain the answer?

I took part in a drinking competition a few years ago and ended up in a bit of a state, people called an ambulance as they thought it were best, checked out the next day with a sore head and a profuse apology to the ambulance staff and nurses! It was a one time misadventure, but should I class it as alcohol abuse?

Im worried that this will look really bad when I always looked at it as teenage shennanigans!

based on what you have written here in this thread, the answers to all three questions (have you abused, alcohol, drugs, or tobacco) would be no, in my humble, humble opinion.

In my opinion, you just say "no". Just answering "no" would be fine because i think they mean if you abuse it and have a problem with it, like on medication or some time, other wise it would be recreational usuage. Like i smoke once in a while and if someone asked me if i smoke, i would say no because i don't do it all the time. Now, if they ask have i EVER smoked, i would say yes.

Thats not really abuse, its just minor use. I would say no.

Just because if further down the line your want to become a citizen, being a drunkard is one of the no no things, and if you aren't actually an abuser of achlohol, don't make yourself one.

You can say you tried it, but never inhaled. At least , it worked for Bill until he took up cigars. ( sorry, I could'nt resist ) .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think many MANY of us have had times when we have gotten completely rat arsed drunk. I did many a time when I was young. I certainly didn't put that I am an abuser of alcohol on my medical questionnaire...

So for my hospitalisation for "misadventure" should i tell it how it was? a group of lads out and it was my turn for the "misadventure"?

I was in for about 6 hours while I slept it off, I was so drunk I dont remember what happened but by all accounts people thought it best to get me in hospital just to check

The funny thing is, I rarely drink anymore and my friends now think I am "boring" now I am loved up!

All I can say is, if you are unsure of what box to tick, ask at the doctors when you go for the medical. In all likelihood they are probably going to tell you to tick "no".

IMO I think it refers to long term alcohol abuse, not a few boozy nights out when young!

If you put yes to the drug taking you will need a waiver, which will add maybe 6 months more to the petition, your call

Just answer NO to those questions relating to past drug or alcohol use, you dont want to implant any ideas into the interviewer mind or the person examing you that will give them a reason to decline your application
