How do you know when the consulate recieves your peition?

I've seen some timelines and people are reporting the consulate received their petition. Do they send an e-mail for this, postal mail, or do you have to actually inquire about it?

Every embassy of every country does it differently. In my case, I was never contacted by the NVC. The USCIS approved my petition and a week later I received an e-mail from the embassy in Jakarta telling me they received my approved petition. They attached all the instructions and forms necessary for the the interview and told me to forward it to my fiancee.

But, if you don't hear anything from the embassy or the NVC. It would not hurt to contact the embassy. Good Luck!

The only way you can KNOW is to emal or to call the embassy and ask them. Provide your NVC number and they can easily say if they have entered your case into their system. The Consulate does not know they have your case until it is entered into their system. A package in a box is not "received"!

I emailed the NVC to ask about the status of my case, then they e-mailed me back 2 days after that my petition had been forwarded to the embassy in Jakarta. And like 2 days after that, the Embassy e-mailed me that they got my petition and gave me some instructions to follow and bunch of forms to be filled out. Good luck!!
